If a battery is not too far gone, you can # restore it by overcharging it - slowly. Say a one-amp charging current for a # few to several days. Keeping the current low stops the battery from overheating. # Mostly, the overcharging current goes to converting the electrolyte water to # oxygen and hydrogen. But some of it goes to nibbling away at the sulfation. # Some folks call this an "equalization charge". When you're done, you top up # the battery with distilled water. # # High-frequency pulsing is a relatively new development. # # - Jerry # ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 12:44:55 -0700 From: Kevin Subject: [db] benz diesel into XJ? So I've been doing some thinking about the black cherokee I have, with the dead 4.0L. It has the renix fuel injection which isn't exactly the most reliable, though this jeep and John's old 87 got amazing service out of it. I'll have to do some measurements to see if it's even feasible, but I know people have done it before - I have this benz diesel sitting around that ran well, and have this dead jeep. Does anyone have any idea what the input shaft depth and diameter were? My jeep is a manual trans, and I don't really want to lose that, even though it means losing boost during a shift. This jeep got incredible mileage before its demise, so putting another 4.0 back in is probably the best idea, but figured it was worth at least kicking around while I was looking for a used 4.0 :) John, do you still have the guy's address that put a 617 into an MJ? Do you remember if his was an automatic or manual? Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 21:21:49 +0100 From: "Stephen Rigley" Subject: Re: [db] benz diesel into XJ? Hey Kevin, Re loosing boost, would a blow-off valve help this by releasing the pressure in the intake tract and so letting the turbo to continue spinning? It seems to work well on my petrol 4 banger... Steve On 8/16/07, Kevin wrote: > So I've been doing some thinking about the black cherokee I have, with the > dead 4.0L.
