Diesel Benz first... the alternator that I thought would solve my problems didn't... got the 124 over to jim startups and he called me up and said it won't fit... well, it'll fit, but it'll spit up it's belt, the front of the alternator is off by about 1/3 of the belt width, neither one of us could remember which way either... but swapping the pulley wouldn't fix it... he's seen enough of these things to know better... so I had him replace the voltage regulator... was putting out about 13.5 volts... the new one is putting out well over 14 something... had it tested at schucks... jim didn't like the regulator that was in the unit, said they're a pretty crummy rebuild... so now I have to return the alternator to aurora... :( paid almost twice as much getting the alternator fixed as I did to buy the used one. on the FSJ side of things... still waiting... waiting for the title for the '89, waiting for Omega to be finished up... hoping this week... been waiting over six years for superdawg... :) on the xj side of things, I'm keeping my eyes open for nice '97 and newer limiteds with tan leather/heated seats incase omega doesn't work out... :) still need to get the xfr case chain replaced in the WJ... haven't had time to call the trans shop... any one have any idea what that will cost? planning a trip down to Tucson over the Christmas break... if Omega isn't ready we'll most likely take the WJ... maybe consider taking the Benz, especially if gas prices keep going up... later, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2007 17:23:34 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] winter vacation... road trip or hawaii? :) have a couple weeks free end of december... a break in school, will have only one class left, graduate in Feb!!! Get a week off between Christmas and New Year and have at least a couple of weeks of vacation saved up too... anyway, two ideas have come forth: 1) drive to Tucson to spend Christmas with our son 2) fly to Hawaii.... TWO groups of questions come forth: 1) which vehicle to take? will the '91 GW be ready and working with the Diesel? Or do we take the '99 WJ? Or, save fuel and take the '91 300D? We plan to go down by way of Boise, SLC, then down through northern AZ, then back up via I-10 to LA and up I-5 to Seattle... Question is what kind of snow could be expected???? Would the '91 300D be ok for a trip through the mountains in December? Biggest issue there is the seats... could our backs survive six or seven days in the benz seats???? 2) If Hawaii which island? and where to get the tickets/package: expedia, travelocity, cheaptickets, or costco? :) Talked to curtis this morning, Omega ('91 Grand Wagoneer) might be done this week... talking about coming up next Saturday... Still need to change the chain in the WJs xfr case.... The benz got a new voltage regulator and seems to be doing better, no dead battery so far... So, a six day road trip, or six days on a beach? We're leaning toward the road trip... first choice is the Grand Wagoneer with the 6.2L Diesel... the benz with mid 30's mpg is coming in a very close second... :) we'll see... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2559 **********************************
