I can move it if I push upwards on it when the car is sitting on its wheels (the other side doesn't move when pushed). It seems to be a 24mm bolt head, but I can't see a way of getting at either end.. what needs to be removed to get at it? I'm hoping its just a case of tightening it up.. So, I also have fairly serious diff lash issue.. when backing off the accelerator the drivetrain will lurch back and forth, when the car is parked in gear with handbrake on, I can turn the driveshaft about a half inch either way. Whats needed to fix? There are several places that might be taking up the slack: 1) Center diff u-joint. I don't think these are available from Benz dealers, but a shop that specializes in driveline parts might be able to cobble up a replacement. 2) The differential 3) Any of the half shaft joints. 4) I suppose it's possible for the rubber couplings to go spongy, as well. So that's what you'll need to look at. On my 190D, I had a similar problem which eventually resolved itself, but not well. It turned out that the pinion bearings were wearing out. Eventually, a spherical washer in the diff assembly let go. This happened at speed, and made a memorable noise. The loose part hit the diff case so hard, it cracked. Only solution was a fresh diff from the boneyard. Since that moment, it would not come back up into 4th. gear. The trans has been trouble free before then. Does any of you have an idea what the likely problem is? You need to check and make sure you cut down replys to the minimal size; digests are between 20,000 and 25,000 characters in length, and if you include a complete digest in your reply, it clearly won't make the 10,000 character limit. By the way, this feature is intentional. j) Are you using a "bad" ISP or mail relay? See http://www.digest.net/email-policy.html for more information about Digest.Net policies about email. k) Is the error message you get back "User Unknown"? If so, you may be running afoul of spam control severices (again, see http://www.digest.net/email-policy.html) When these services register a hit, the error code 550 is returned. 550 is a generic code that many broken mail systems report as "user unknown". The Krusty Motorsports server (aka, digest.net) was explicitly to provide for efficient management of the various automotive mailing lists, done the way that the owner of the server wanted it done. Any migration off of the server (which is already bought, paid for, and configured) would create any number of issues. 8. How do i contact the Server Administrator in an emergency? My '84 300SD had a similar problem in '03. While driving on the freeway, the transmission would drop down to 3rd gear for no reason. Initially, I could coax the transmission back into 4th by playing with the throttle. In the end, a rebuild was done. Check your vacuum lines, etc, before going the rebuild route. I miss my MB. Hopefully I'll be well enough to start driving next week.
