Diesel is 3.45/gal here (ok, I know, I know, it's higher in Europe... (how high???) I've put together a spreadsheet to compare Diesel vs. Gas in the objects of my motoring affection... The GW with the 5.9 is for reference only, I would be quite desperate, or have won the lottery, to drive it daily... :) at this point with Diesel at 3.45 and gas at 3.05 or so, the XJ with a 4.0L getting 16 to 17 mpg in town beats out the 6.2L Diesel Grand Wagoneer which should get at least 18mpg in town. The WJ of course is about $20/wk more... this is based on 645 miles/week. The 300D with it's 2.5L Turbo Diesel only getting 26-28mpg in town is still cheaper at around $85/wk vs $123 for the Jeeps... the plan is to keep the benz while my son is in school, have him pay the insurance... the insurance savings by NOT having the 300D offset the fuel costs. Now, the question I'm again faced with is... will Omega meet my standards as a daily driver... could find out this week... :) but that '99 XJ is still on the market at a greatly reduced price... temptations abound... hoping to be in the GW this weekend... stay tuned... :) (if you want a copy of the spreadsheet will put it on my server under Jeeps named "mileage.xls" john MPG: Grand Wagoneer 5.9 V8 Grand Wag w/ 6.2L Diesel XJ 4.0 300D Diesel WJ 4.7L V8 10 $196.73 11 $178.84 12 $163.94 13 $151.33 $151.33 14 $140.52 $158.95 $140.52 $140.52 15 $131.15 $148.35 $131.15 $131.15 16 $139.08 $122.95 $122.95 17 $130.90 $115.72 18 $123.63 $109.29 19 $117.12 $103.54 20 $111.26 $98.36 21 $105.96 22 $101.15 23 $96.75 24 $92.72 25 $89.01 26 $85.59 27 $82.42 28 $79.47 ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 16:27:43 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] RE: fsj: fuel costs and wheel options... red green had a little bit of humor with this... talking about gas prices in the US... he's saying to harold, those guys in the US are paying (can't remember the value now, let's say $3.00 per gallon)... while they were only paying $1.10 per liter in Canada... and Red thought he was getting a bargain until harold explained how many liters in a gallon, etc... :) guess you had to see it... ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Tue, 16 Oct 2007, michel balea wrote: # In France diesel was 1.08 to 1.20 euros a liter.... depending on where you # purchase it.... from costco equivalent to the freeway stations..... so at 1.00 # euro to $1.42 today so this will give us $5.5 to $6.3 a gallon.... # # Foreign policies..... helping..... gas will probably shoot to $90ish before # Halloween... gosh... before the end of this week, fueled by speculation..... # # Groceries... are about 20% higher than last year..... at least around here.... # Houses for sale are all over the area.... not too good...... wheat is getting # more $$$$. # # Michel # # > Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 12:26:59 -0700 # > From: john-at-wagoneers.com # > To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net; xj-at-digest.net; fsj-at-digest.net; # WJ-Grand-at-yahoogroups.com # > Subject: fsj: fuel costs and wheel options... # > # > fuel prices continue to climb... I picked up all the parts at www.rockauto.com. They're having some sort of closeout sale on Beck Arnley parts. I bought rebuilt, loaded calipers for all the corners for not much more than the price of pads alone. Loaded calipers were about $39. Everything fit perfectly. If they still have stock, it's a good opportunity to get some spares.
