I assume you are a west coast denizen and not anywhere near Michigan ;-) I had a 64 FHC painted old English White, red leather interior (all new) that I rebuilt to showroom condition, then sold for good money at the time. That paid for an addition to my house and some left over to get a basket case (all in parts) 1952 MG TD and a 64 MB fintail gasser. Both sit in the barn for lack of time with my current job. The XKE was fun but at 6' and about 260 lbs I found that I hit the roof at every bump. Fun to drive though. If I can find a rust free sample of the later 4.2L straight 6 powered XKE's with the sling type seats, I may be interested. That seat/floor change added about 3" of headroom by that change in the seats. Mechanically I can fix every part, have all the tools from the last restoration and know every nut an bolt on it. The only thing I farm out is the paint, nothing makes the value go up as a pro paint job and I am not a pro in that department. I will scan a photo and send it to John so he can post it. That project was before digital cameras were cheap so all the photos are prints. I don't get very attached to cars, love driving and working on them. In your case though, I can understand the attachment. Now if I could find a 1959 Standard Vanguard (Pininfarina body)..... that was my Dads first car after I came into existence and I learned to drive in it...... Both running, but don't get driven much. The wife tools around in her blue XJ6 - with the 4.2L engine. Q. What happens when you make an engine bigger on the inside without making it bigger on the outside? A. Bad things. Things like siamesed cylinders. Water jackets that make you amazed that the head gasket can seal at all.
