And remember that the turbo OM617 was not simply a non-turbo with a turbocharger slapped on. There were some internal changes to deal with the additional pressures and temperatures, plus the stuff for the injection pump to know when to squirt in more fuel. I thought these were basically modeled quite heavily on the old Land Rovers, but beefed up, so whatever that implies for everyday ride quality. It should be pretty much a real military-grade vehicle, so incredible durable and easy enough to maintain that an enlisted grunt could fix it with a repair manual. If you can swing it, I think you would really be happy with this one, john. Diesel 4x4. I have three, will be four on saturday when I make it out to ge that landcruiser. Granted, the other ones are all fullsize trucks (two are duallies). Landcruiser's a five speed manual also. Probably fortunate, otherwise climbing the continental divide would be even slower. It doesn't even have a turbo, but it has underpiston cooling jets on it and is a pretty beefy engine, not much difference between it and the turbo version. Turbo manifold even bolts on easily, heard of someone that makes an adapter to allow using a turbo off a 617 or something. I suppose we'll see how the landcruiser does. The 3.4L four cylinder is rated for right around 100 hp, and it's a pretty heavy truck. Memory serving me they came with 4.10 gears (and it has 31" tires). It even has a winch and ARBs to get me even more stuck when stupidity strikes. :) On Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 01:02:20PM -0800, john wrote: > yeah, but look at the seat height on the 300GD vs. your 190D. > > I did not have problems in my J10 with a 5spd because the seat > is up high enough... > > that's what makes the difference... that and the fact that it's > probably a divorced mount Xfr case and I could drop the driveline > from Shadowfax right in... ;) (sans the goofy computers for ASD > and climate) > > or maybe you could sell me that Diesel land cruiser... ;) > > I just gotta have a Diesel 4x4... :) ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2591 **********************************
