Mind you I rarely drive it, but when I do I can sense the high CoG and lack of agility I find in my car. I'm also acutely aware of the increased stopping distance. My family always comment that I age 40 years behind the wheel of the truck... since I drive it "like an old man"... in other words "slow". I really only use it for dump/lumber/hay runs anyway. Handy to have but I'd never use one as a daily driver - the fuel bills would bankrupt me (it is a gasser and gets ~11 MPG. I wish it were Diesel.) It boggles my mind when I see people drive big trucks and SUVs *like* they are cars. This wasn't such a big deal 20 years ago when trucks were a minority on the road but now it seems most vehicles I see are trucks, or similar. Did you find the 15 gallons of BioDiesel I dropped off at your place John? - --chuck ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2008 10:49:17 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Feel safe in that big pickup? Remove the hardware, slide the panel up and it's out. The big gotcha is that the panel is hung and not clipped, as it was with the 123's. The monovalve is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side of the firewall. I have attached the PDF's covering these two procedures. The should be stripped from the list copy, but you should receive them in a second message. Have fun! Jon Jason asked: > Jeeves (my pretty 126) has developed another weird pair of issues. I had this problem once before, and discovered that the switch in the passenger door thought that it was still locked even though the door was open. When I unlocked it with the key, the switch wised up and the alarm shut up. My suspicion is that this switch has totally failed now, and thus my question becomes how hard is it to take the door apart, and can it be done without messing up the still very nice interior? > > The other thing is that suddenly he has a heat issue. The mechanisms all move properly, blower runs properly, flaps move, but about the time the heat starts to come out, it goes stone cold. The antifreeze level appears fine, but I do need to look closer. Barring that, my monovalve must be failing, but I simply cannot find it. Where is it, and is there any way to test it? > > J [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type application/pdf which had a name of 72-100.pdf] [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type application/pdf which had a name of 83-625.pdf] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Jan 2008 22:34:09 -0500 From: "J.B. Hebert" Subject: Re: [db] 126 Weirdness If the 126 is like the 124, you do not have to remove the door panel to remove the door handle. There is a set screw hidden under the rubber moulding that you loosen and then the handle can be removed. That said, if the 126 is like the 124, the micoswitch in the handle is not available separately and the whole handle will have to be replaced. I have the same problem with my 124 where on occasion the driver's door switch will not disarm the system and the alarm goes off. I've gotten in the habit of either using my keyless entry (locks doors but does not arm the alarm system) or unlocking the car from the trunk or passenger door. Good luck. J.B. (fwd) Absolutely. For single vehicle crashes in particular, it all comes down to engineering. That's a lot of why I wouldn't have felt unsafe in the new smart car. I've accepted that there's no way I could live with automated manual transmission shifts that slow, but safety was not an objection for me.
