Here's a little zippy diesel if somebody wants killer gas mileage and a severely overpowered compact car......... 300194512786 It's a good thing I'm too far away to try it out; I fear I'd get hooked on that much guts in such a small car. But oh well. BY THE WAY, which way do you turn the screw on top of the IP to make it more powerful? I don't remember. I do remember that if a little is good, a lot isn't necessarily better........ But I don't have a lot to lose; that engine was a freebie, and it's still slapping along........I am going to put Amzoil (yes, that's the spelling from 1970) in it, and hope that it might loosen up those rings. Who knows. It'll at least give the poor thing some added protection from the additional power I plan on making it generate. Might as well have some fun when there's not much at stake. 8^) J ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2008 18:38:04 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] John? Anybody? Other than the diminutive size, I think a W201 190D 2.5 turbo with a manual transmission would be a fun daily driver. On the ALDA, counter-clockwise adds more fuel. I think I remember seeing a writeup about it someplace like mbz.org, and a Google search turned up two nice ones, although neither is the writeup I remember. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbuymbparts.com%2 Fforum%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D370&ei=P_ujR_ulCaLAggSyh4DvAg&usg=AFQjCNH056aG j8bGS_s0KVKX1CoqHyYGJA&sig2=qxTAm80MORU565N1nlABRg is a message board thread about it, and http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dieselgiant. com%2Fmercedesaldaboostsystemservi.htm&ei=P_ujR_ulCaLAggSyh4DvAg&usg=AFQjCNE qpqpdfFGlog0hQFi5kbQf0P4w8g&sig2=lBpWdqbDeN55YQbAE80dRw had some badass pictures of the job. And it's exquisitely sensistive. I bought a 300SD from my broker. She didn't want it anymore because the drivers seat was broken and it was a slug. I fixed the seat with a new pan on Ebay, and fixed the engine by turning the ALDA 1/4 turn CCW. 1/4 turn was all it took to transform the slug into a rabbit. Amazing difference. - Jerry Kaidor ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2008 21:55:41 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] projects involving Diesel... after class today I came home and started working on my '91 Grand Wagoneer... need to get the 6.2L Diesel primed and running... got the fuel solenoid partially wired in and switched to the main tank and pumped fuel through the filters, cracked the lines on the injectors now and was trying to get the rest of the system primed, may hook up the pump again... and then crank... making a mess. :) I may switch back to the aux tank and prime that system as well so both are fully functional... not sure why the fuel isn't in the injection lines yet... not sure how long after the primary and secondary filters are bleed that the injection pump and lines will be primed... I may put the electric pump back on the system and try to crank that way to help it... an engineer friend is in town from Detroit, he was on the original FSJ list when I started it, finished his mechanical engineering degree at Boston University... drove across the country in his Grand Wagoneer in 1996 and visited... he used to work for jeep or chrysler, got laid off, very bitter about the whole automotive world and detroit... in seattle taking a home inspection course and will be living in new mexico... he's going to church with me and my son and then will come over after and work on my jeep with me for a while... hoping to have it running tomorrow... picked up the exhaust flange and will jury rig a 2.5" pipe into the original muffler... will do the 3" later. will resume wiring tomorrow in daylight, was starting to get cold out, almost freezing even. :) I figure he can help with a few of the mechanical items while I'm doing the wiring... :) I'm glad I didn't try to work on this thing right after the skin cancer surgery... I would have torn my stitches... have hit my ear a number of times this evening on a number of things... :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- there's a solution for every problem; problem is can we afford the solution? - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2654 **********************************
