Jason, That is one nice looking MB. It looks like it's been pampered. If the engine has been either replaced, or at least the head, I'd go for it. I say that thinking that the 350 is the one known as the "rod bender". I may be thinking wrong. Does the engine sound and feel right. If so, thumbs up! As to your question about possible problems. If it has been as pampered as it looks, you should not have any problems, other than routine maintenance, to worry about. If it's been sitting, and you do a lot of driving, you'll have the usual "shake out" things to look into such as brakes, maybe recharge the A/C and such. Otherwise you should love it. If my '84 SD had been in as nice condition, I'd never have bought this '95 E300 Diesel. I love the '95, but the SD IS the superior MB. Let us know what you decide. Jon Jason wrote: > Yeah, I know. I replaced some bulbs in the dash, etc. took it out for a test run and it was doing pretty well, definetly need to replace the injectors as a starting point... can hear one of them misbehaving found a source on ebay, also have a local shop... just not running right, but did hit almost 70 going up the hill... ...coming back down the highway pulling into my drive I decided to test the brakes... got on 'em pretty hard, not hard enough to lock up the tires... ...didn't really notice that I had a problem until about halfway across my field... when I applied the brakes the jeep pulled right... hmmm... tried it again... right... dang, that's not good... wonder what's causing that... pulled into the carport, saw a little bit more smoke than usual... went to turn it off and noticed that the oil pressure was zero... that's odd... shut it off and got out and then noticed that there was oil on the left front tire... and a big puddle of oil on the floor under the jeep... and behind it... and up the driveway... all the way up the drive to the highway... where I hit the brakes... :( yep, didn't hit the brakes hard enough to lock the tires, but hard enough to puncture the oil filter and dent the exhaust... :( so what I really, really need is an oil filter relocation kit and a lift kit... and a vacuum pump... and injectors, maybe a pump... guess I'm I'm driving my 300D to work tomorrow. :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2008 12:54:23 GMT From: "jasonbassett-at-juno.com" Subject: Re: [db] Re: How about this beauty to fiddle with? I decide to look very hard at it, but also be prepared to lose it by having this one in my sights: ebay id 170194960190 Yes, that is the rodbender engine. I have heard that approx. 40% of them died that way, and died very young. Having made it to 225k and 168k respectively, are they likely to "make it," since they are a little too used to "die young"? (or how not to change your oil?) http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/02-Feb-17-Omega-oil-mountains/ALL.html (no Diesels were harmed in this experiment... ;) Guess I will need to finish the oil change... all I need to do is change the filter and add oil, eh? You've heard of the topsider? this is the "downunder"... to change oil, simply make hard use of brakes, this commences the oil change process... no need to deal with that messing drain plug ever again... ;) ...not recommended for use in heavy traffic... :) or in environmentally sensistive areas... I knew the clearance was a bit of an issue... thinking of going with a 2" lift kit, that should bring the springs up to a positive arch, probably close to stock height... but now wondering if I shouldn't go with the full 4" of lift... that would probably net 2" after the weight issue... but then I'd have to modify the panhard bar brackets, brake lines, get a new pitman arm... with three inches of body lift already that much spring lift would have me using a ladder to get into my Jeep. :) Also found out the vacuum pump is inoperative... going to replace the injectors too... otherwise, it's doing pretty well... the last run had good performance results, almost hit 70 mph going up the clearview hill... wasn't strong, or smooth, but it did better than previous attempts... I'm thinking what I may do is swap out the oil filter, refill the crank case, pressure wash the underside and drive it (carefully) down to the topsoil place down the hill to get a scale reading to see what I'm really dealing with. john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2008 13:09:09 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] military vs. civilian I'm wondering if the parts for the military version of the 6.2L Diesel are that much different from the civilian version...
