IMPOSTOR! No battery should EVER be that close to a fine diesel engine! TRAITORS! Oh Volkswagen, why'd you do it??? [sob sob] Actually, it's not a bad idea if you like the hybrid thing, i just think hybrids are a bad idea because of the wear-out and toxins in the batteries. Better to just make a highly efficient non-hybrid. But if they're going to pursue the stupid hybrid thing, diesel is the best ICE to pair with (of course. What else would I say? 8^) J - -- Brian Knowles wrote: http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/03/vws-golf-diesel.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2008 13:39:42 GMT From: "jasonbassett-at-juno.com" Subject: Re: [db] fuel prices Haha, maybe I should start printing circuit boards in my inkjet printer. 8^) Maybe I could print a whole computer.....Seriously, though, I don't see solar ever being useful for cars. But maybe it will happen in my lifetime; I'd say this makes it a little more likely. - -- Edward Pomeroy wrote: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/earth/4253464.html?series=15 The future is getting nearer gentlemen.... fire up your supercapacitors and let those DC motors spin! Actually IIRC VW built a Diesel/Electric Hybrid back in the early 1980s for testing purposes. It turned in something like 170 MPG. Of course it was a small concept car with limited usefulness, but if anyone can build a good one for general use it will be VW. - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2008 09:17:34 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] fuel prices very cool... up here we could cover our vehicles with these things... and use the power to recharge our ipods... maybe... on sunny days... let's see, that would be sometime in august... most years... :) ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Thu, 6 Mar 2008, Edward Pomeroy wrote: # http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/earth/4253464.html?series=15 # # The future is getting nearer gentlemen.... fire up your supercapacitors and # let those DC motors spin! Can my 1983 300D turbo take such a hitch and tow such a load? Thanks in advance for any advice. "We have a 40"x48" trailer from Harbor Freight that served us well, on the back of my Miata. However, we haven't used it (or licensed it) since we got the Jeep Liberty. There just hasn't been any need for it. It's their "heavy duty" model, with 12" tires, and rated for freeway speeds. Ball hitch is 1 3/4". According to literature packed with it, the manufacturer makes a motorcycle rail body for it, but this one comes with a 3/4" plywood bed."
