The only time the "nasties" are really a big factor is if you run it too heavy and it can't atomize properly, aka, burn cleanly. Otherwise, the carbons and such burn off, and I never was too scared of brass dust. I wouldn't worry about pH, (never did, anyway) because what is is going to mess up? You're not going to get your oil far enough off to dissolve your engine from the fuel side without having something on the oil side absolutely destroyed. And yes, I think viscosity was the issue with the army. They didn't want to have the fuel heavy enough to burn incompletely and foul their engines. But if you're heating your fuel anyway, veggie-style, no problem. And on the 5-cylinder 300D-types, I've run them 50/50 with no problems. It smells a bit weird, but they don't complain unless it's very cold, in which case they're difficult to start on that heavy a mix. A few gallons in a tank shouldn't faze any MB prior to 1995. J - -- john wrote: the nasties are incenarted... did I spell that right? anyway, it's the best thing that can be done to them... that's how they destroy toxins, in an incenerator... did I spell THAT right? ;) I think there might be something to the idea of filtering, then letting the used oil settle... then doing something to adjust for PH... any chemists amongst us? I think they only permitted 5% because of viscosity issues. It's much thicker than Diesel, especially if it has a lot in suspension. When my injectors failed on one Diesel engine the oil analysis folks told me about it... my motor oil had increased in viscosity to gear lube... around 90W or so. :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Tue, 18 Mar 2008, Paul Masterson wrote: # I don't know, I was looking into it, and found that the Army uses # it's old oil as fuel, but they will only allow up to 5% used motor oil in the # fuel.
