I wish Ron! I am from the ONE generation in the USA that was brought up in school being taught Metric. Back in the 1970s it was assumed that we would convert to Metric in the mid-1980s, so while we were learning measurement systems as small children they were teaching us Metric first, and Imperial second... the latter really for historical value (and perhaps dealing with our parents! =) ) Then a guy who shares your nickname was voted into the White House and stopped the whole process in its tracks. he may have done some good while in office, but IMHO this wasn't. When dealing with measurements I personally still prefer to do things in Metric, and when I don't have to deal with buying stuff or relating it to other people, I do. My whole BioDiesel setup is done in Metric measure for example. It is so much easier to deal in liters and kilograms when you have to mix them in percentages of each other. I can't imagine trying to mix gallons and pounds at 7.8% of volume to each other! With metric it is trivial... I can even do it in my head since they are a 1:1 measure. Oh well. - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2008 09:45:23 -0700 From: cosmos Subject: Re: [db] Opinions on parked 240D Thanks for the replies guys and clarification of the tractor comment :) The car's been parked in Redding, CA. Once I convert a rig over I never change the trans/axles again... never had any problems. the amsoil synthetic atf has been known to cut operating temps as much as 50 degrees. there was a local tow company that kept eating transmissions, switched over to amsoil and they haven't had a problem since. one of the local topsoil companies was blowing out their gear box for one of their feeders, got in touch with me and used synthetic gear lube and no problems... in my Mercedes Diesel I changed the oil after 1 year of commuting to seattle, had 17,000 miles on the oil... had it analyzed, no problems... so my last oil change I went 30,000 miles, no oil loss in all that time, my 2.5L Turbo Diesel has over 270,000 miles on it too.... my '99 WJ actually has 152,300 miles on it, just got back from running some veggie oil up to my buddy 20 miles north of hear and pulled my J10 trailer... love that 4.7L V8! I'm using the Series 3000 0w30 in the WJ. Changed it last year before driving back to South Dakota, not sure how many miles are on it, but it's still clean...
