It's been what I was looking for. I have a little more information on the car. It's an '82. The odometer stopped working with 205k on the clock. According to the owner it was only driven half a year of light driving before it was parked, so maybe ~5000k? How difficult is it to replace the odometer/instrument cluster Would this even be worth it? Also, anyone buy things from thebenzbin.com or recommend a parts place? Also, I was looking at fuel filters and, to me, they look like an oil filter. A mahale for ~$16, not too bad for a fuel filter. My '76 240D had the odometer fail many years ago (around 1999/2000), and it cost about $250 (IIRC) to have it rebuilt/repaired through a dealership (who outsourced it to an odometer specialty shop). - -bkc Lynnwood, WA (his) '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] (hers) '92 Toyota Celica GT (ours) '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] On Mon Apr 07, 2008, cosmos wrote: > Hello all, > > Thanks for all the help so far. There are numerous writeups online that walk you through disassembly, repair, and reassembly. I've fixed at least 3 that I can remember. Go to www.buymbparts.com for your parts needs. Rusty has great prices and great customer service. He's got the Mahle fuel filter for $7.52. Good luck. J.B. At 02:04 PM 4/7/2008, cosmos wrote: >Hello all, > >Thanks for all the help so far. Then again, when the odometer on my 85 300D stopped counting, I figured it was telling me it had simply gone enough miles to no longer bother counting. The Benz Bin is one good parts source. Rusty Cullens' www.buymbparts.com is another. I don't know if Randy Steele still has EPS Parts, but they were another one that has been mentioned on the lists in a positive light. Yup. The MAIN fuel filter looks like a spin on oil filter, and Mahle is a good brand. Also look for and replace the small inline filters. They are clear plastic and make it easy to see if you have some gunk in the fuel.
