Parked the '91 Grand Wagoneer for a bit as I need to fix the fuel gauge to the aux tank, swap out the speedo gear in the xfr case, hoping that my collection of XJ gears will have the correct count. :) Still need to deal with the spring rate issue, too stiff... but, planning on rebuilding the carport next, so will be driving the Benz for a while I guess, at least until I get the odometer and fuel gauge setup... I am happy that this last tank netted 18.82mpg... encouraging... making progress, but getting tired of building my own... (real Jeeps are built, not bought???) - -------------------------------------- GREEN HOUSE GASES? hey, saw a green house gas calculator... it's claiming that the average american is creating 20,750 lbs of carbon dioxide per person per year. That's 56.85 lbs per day... ? looking at some of their extrapolations/calculations I noticed that they 12,100 lbs/vehicle per year, based on 231 miles per week... In this calculator you place your auto mileage... in order to get their stated average one would have to get about 13 mpg (12,253 lbs). The calculator has a number of other limitations and issues; will search for one on line... the premise and data seem somewhat flawed to me. I am extremely skeptical of this data and it's interpretation. We are too eager to accept this as fact without questioning it. (if you haven't seen the Ben Stein movie Expelled, I recommend it, different subject than this one, but the underlying thought process appears related!) - -------------------------------------- updated the page for the Omega project. http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/8_Links_to_more_History.html other current fotos at: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/ - --------------------------------------- Article I hear about coming out on the 24th: 787 fotos: http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0804/gallery.boeing_dreamliner.fortune/index.html Video Link: http://money.cnn.com/video/ft/#/video/fortune/2008/04/21/fortune.500.boeing.fortune. ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com ** http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2008 22:20:42 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jerry Kaidor" Subject: Re: [db] projects, green house gases and fotos > Drove the '91 300D today... My neighbor stopped as he drove by - asked when I would finish the car - reminded me that there is a city ordinance against fixing cars on the street - or in the driveway - - or even in a garage when visible from the street. Grrr! I still have to R&R that starter one more time. It's in just a little too deep - something touches the flywheel as the motor runs. Actually a collection of books right? 66 of them as I recall? ;) Right, but it is my understanding that that is the reason that our founding fathers set up the form of government that they did. One that was based on the rights of the individual and not on the majority. Thus a democratic republic instead of a democracy. But we've gotten VERY lost. We should have the freedom to work on our beloved diesel machines wherever/whenever we feel the urge within some reasonable limits respecting the rights of others. While I don't believe in subdivision bylaws, I can avoid that problem by not living in a subdivision. However, those types of rules/regulations are getting put on all types of property not just subdivisions in my area. Oh, and as for property values? The constitution does NOT guarantee any kind of property values. I've never heard of this... where do you live? *** San Mateo, California. It's on the San Francisco peninsula, about halfway between SF and San Jose. This kind of thing is typical of the little peninsula towns. The Peninsula is an exclusive place. An expensive place. Lots of fortune 500 folks here. Property values are ridiculous. My other neighbor put his house on the market at 1.395 million a few months ago. In five days, he had a full price offer with no contingencies. His house is a bit bigger than mine, and he has a pool. But his lot is much smaller. Don't see many beater cars on the Peninsula. San Mateo is probably one of the easier-going Peninsula towns. In Foster City, down the hill, you have to maintain your shrubbery to a certain standard, and paint your house approved colors. External antennas are not allowed. That's why I don't live in Foster City - I was an avid radio ham at the time. Some months ago, I ran afoul of Code Enforcement because my garbage cans were visible from the street. I had to build a little fence to conceal the trash area. It's the kind of thing that is only enforced if somebody complains - and it seems there's a busybody lady a block or so away who walks her dog down my cul-de-sac. - Jerry > Steve > > On Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 6:20 AM, Jerry Kaidor wrote: > >> > Drove the '91 300D today...
