I would say you have some serious corrosion issues in your electrical system, especially as related to the grounds. I would clean all electrical connectors with a good cleaner, Mike Frank turned me on to some really good stuff a few years ago, don't remember the name of it... then I would go through and clean all the ground connections on the engine, chassis, battery, under the dash and I would even go so far as to run an extra wire between those ground lugs using good connectors. I am doing this on my Grand Wagoneer as well... I may get an amplifier for it to enhance it's capabilities in the Grand Wagoneer... it's the Insignia Model: NS-C5112 http://www.insignia-products.com/pc-305-6-insignia-21w-x-4-in-dash-cd-deck-with-hd-radio-tuner-and-detachable-faceplate.aspx Any thoughts on it? Before the audiophiles come out of the woodwork, remember, this is going into the dash of an 18 year old Grand Wagoneer with a 6.2L Diesel rattling away mere inches in front of the firewall pushing a large elevated brick through the wind with economical results... but, unfortunately, not quietly. :) Here's my craigslist ad for the Sony system... I could use an mp3 player with an fm transmitter I guess and save $100... That might explain one thing, which is that the charging system isn't working properly. No warning light when first starting or turning off, and barely generating electricity.
