On my '83 Euro 300TD wagon fuel has been leaking from the banjo bolt holding the cartridge fuel filter. I stopped by a dealership and picked up the 2 o-rings needed on the bolt. When I removed the bolt, the lower o-ring was not a big deal to replace. On the upper o-ring, between the bolt head and the hole in the bolt, there was no groove. I removed the same bolt from my '83 300D Turbo sedan and it had the groove. I checked the part number on the filter housing and sure enough, they are different. One ends in 01 08 and the other 02 08. For the bolt without the upper groove, I added the o-ring so that is seats "under" the bolt step. I replaced it and no leaks. My question is, is that correct? I cannot see why not but I figured that I'd ask. It seems that the o-ring can "slip" down the bolt. Thanks in advance, Marc Z in NC ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 19:55:49 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] weight info was looking up how much a yard of gravel weighed and found this website: http://www.reade.com/Particle_Briefings/spec_gra2.html Density of gravel A cubic foot of dry, loose gravel with 1/4" to 2" stones is 105 pounds per cubic foot. So, a cubic yard is that times 27, or 2835 lb. (There are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard.) So, when I haul two yards of gravel in my J10 hydraulic dump trailer that weighs 2,000lbs empty, I'm hauling 7,760 lbs... either behind my '91 Grand Wagoneer or '99 Grand Cherokee... the GW weighs about 5,600lbs... the GC about 3,950. No wonder the GC groans and creaks coming down the driveway... let's see... 5,600+7,760=13,270lbs or over 6.6 tons... I don't think I want to drive very far with that kind of weight... I think I need to fix my surge brake controller. :) that raccoon I hit with just the grand wagoneer didn't like the 5,600lbs much, first tire made a bit of jolt, second tire was barely a ripple... what is amazing is that the grand wagoneer actually got 24 mpg on the freeway... got to love those Diesels. :) ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 20:18:43 -0700 From: chuck goolsbee Subject: Re: [db] Gas Mileage >I would like to get down to Chile, Puerto Mont is a place I've >heard about that sounds nice. My BJ-60 landcruiser is a good example, as the toyota 3B diesel is fairly prevalent in latin america, not only in landcruisers, but in coasters as well. An acquaintance from another list makes the drive every year from british columbia to guatemala in his BJ-60, and says he picked the vehicle for that very reason. A drive to south america requires some good planning, and most likely a boat trip, as there is part of panama that is not passable without some serious bushwhacking. Most people making this drive usually catch a boat from roughly the panama canal to south america, and depending on their choices, political unrest, and whatnot, they sometimes avoid colombia or venezuela (depending on which direction they are going). Speaking of choices, it is generally a bad choice to be on backroads (if not any roads) through mexico much after dark, especially if someone considers you the stereotypical outsider with lots of money. I bought my landcruiser planning to drive it to the end of the earth, but I was going to go north, not south.
