JimB, did you read those regs? They simply do NOT apply in this situation... e.g.: 1) Diesel systems are permitted to use gravity feed... 2) end user mods are permitted under these sections 3) total gvw is less than 10k... 4) non-commercial use etc. QUOTE from Part 393: section 393.67 Liquid fuel tanks. (a) Application of the rules in this section. The rules in this section apply to tanks containing or supplying fuel for the operation of commercial motor vehicles or for the operation of auxiliary equipment installed on, or used in connection with commercial motor vehicles. ...even your informal, unofficial, user-based subjective, ill-informed internet forum of users from Australia didn't have regs pertaining to this: QUOTE: "They have three Vehicle Standards Information (VSI) sheets that I thought might help, namely 8, 20 and 22 but they were not relevant to diesel fuel tanks." ...none of these US (or international) regs apply to WASTE VEGETABLE OIL! just think Wesson or Crisco purchased at the store... :) If I were to begin making and selling these things it would be easy to obtain certification based on the requirements cited... If it were stinking gasoline, well, common sense would require EXTREME careful handling and following the safety standards, for excellent reasons... that stuff not only smells horrible, it's quite dangerous... IT SHOULD BE OUTLAWED as wasteful, polluting, inefficient and outdated... gasoline stinks. The plastic in the FSJ grille offers as much, or perhaps MORE danger in the event of an accident/fire than does the veggie oil, or even Diesel fuel. Burning plastic is toxic... burning veggie oil smells great... ;) Diesel, oil and vegetable oils are not spark ignitable, have not the issues of volatility or vapors and are not easy to ignite... of course when they do ignite they burn slower and hotter than gas or propane... more energy content... just as hard to extinguish... The biggest hazard of having waste veggie oil in a container like this is making a mess... that and it's going to be less than 5 gallons anyway... Jim, you need to get over your fear of compression ignition, real engines rattle, real engines don't have spark plugs... :) Ditch those spark plugs and get a real engine buddy... Diesel fuel rules, gasoline is for fools... :) The current plan involves a 5' section of black ABS sewer pipe, it's thick walled and has a number of standard fittings/couplings available, and it will permit direct taping of fittings for the fuel lines. I'm giving some thought to making a small frame mounted bracket to hold it, it'll extend forward of the brush guard and may offer a winch mount or at least tow hook straps... it'll also be more substantial than the current aluminum bumpers... we'll see... first I have to get the jeep moving under it's own power again... getting off my soap box... :) Jim, if you have any of the nuts that go on an NP xfr case I could use one... missing one on the top and my NP219 doesn't have any on it... you can also check out the Novak adapter setup... I have the NP219 sitting behind the jeep... will pull the nP228 tonight... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 21 Jul 2008, Jim Blair wrote: # # Before you get carried away, there are laws, and regulations you may wish to peruse. Hi, all. I know this is a silly cosmetic question compared to the more technical issues usually discussed here, but I'm going to ask it anyway: what's a good product to remove whatever that grubby black stuff is that my mechanic got on the interior of my door? I don't know the name of the beige material covering the door, but you can probably name it for me when I say that I have a 1982 300CD. Thanks! Try "DeSolv-It" or "Goof-off". The former is your best choice I think. It is a citrus-based cleaner that is amazing on oil and grease. Be careful though, it doesn't take much to do the job! I use it for degreasing stuff out in my barn/workshop/BioDiesel refinery. Goof-off is a general-purpose stain remover. - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2824 **********************************
