Yikes. Thinking about selling Omega now that I have everything working except the cruise control. (what better time to sell when there are no issues!!! Hurry up and buy it before it needs something. ;) My reasons for going with the Blazer over the Grand Wagoneer is that the 6.5L TD is a quieter and better integrated into the chassis. We're spoiled by my Mercedes Diesel, :) While this is about the closest one could get to a stock setup, it's still not what I expect. Omega is doing fine but it's not quite to the level of comfort that I wanted. Swaps and conversions never are and I didn't really enter this project expecting perfection. Actually, this thing turned out way better than I envisioned. I kind of stumbled into this project when I got the '91 Grand Wagoneer... I've decided I want something stock, Diesel, and 4x4, the Blazer meets that criteria. This way I won't have to work on it if I don't want to. Will be able to go into a parts store and not have to remember if it's an '83 GMC 3/4 Ton, '91 Grand Wagoneer, '92 XJ, '99 WJ or a 1985 VW. :) Taking a custom Grand Wagoneer in for work requires special effort... most shops and mechanics barely understand a Grand Wagoneer, let alone a custom one. :) That means that I have to fix things myself... I prefer to have the option of not doing that. :) It's not that it's impossible to have serviced, because it's not... one must remember to tell the shop what is what and then all goes quite well. :) Anyway, my math tallied up well over 12K invested over the last seven years of parts gathering and recent work. The '91 Grand Wagoneer has a new radiator, new engine/trans mounts, custom 3" exhaust, new driveshafts, new ring and pinion, new tires, new transmission, dual tanks (40 to 44 gallon capacity), functioning air conditioning, leather seats, power windows, factory sunroof, alarm system with remote access, professionally tinted glass, minimal body damage, NO rust, trailer hitch, MP3/CD player with Sony speakers, and prepped for cruise control... has an engine and trans oil cooler, completely Amsoil synthetic front to rear... somewhere in the 16 to 18 mpg in town, 23.75 on the freeway (in Western Washington... NOT level ground!). It isn't the easiest Diesel to start, windshield has some pits, minor damage on right side, a few fuel leaks remain, carpeting could use attention, but otherwise it's great... As always, I fear the Grand Wagoneer tailgate, but in the two years I've owned this one I've not had a bit of trouble. I'm trying to figure out how to price and sell this... ideas? thanx, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2008 10:35:24 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] fixed vibration, another Diesel... rotated the front driveshaft on Omega last night 180 degrees at the xfr case... no vibrations at 60 to 65mph... took it up to 80 mph... nothing... There was no way of indexing it when I swapped the NP228 out for the NP219. The NP219 works well, goes in and out of lock up or low range without trouble. In other news, it looks like we're heading to eastern Washington on Thursday to get a '94 Blazer with a 6.5L TD. Buying it sight unseen... low risk, I can sell it here, use the drivetrain in Omega or keep it... no worries. http://wagoneers.com/tmp/Blazer/ALL.html The guy bought a new CRD Liberty... he's lamenting that decision, wishes he'd kept the Blazer the economy isn't much better in the Liberty. I like the idea of the Blazer... I can pick up a parts catalog and find parts listed. :) He's already dealt with the issues of the electronic injection pump by remounting the modules and a few other things. He's already set it up to run on BioDiesel, so I'll be adding a WVO kit to it, again, I can pick up a catalog and buy a prepared kit... not that I don't mind "engineering" stuff... ;) It would be nice if my wife took a liking to the Blazer and we kept the GW and the Blazer and sold the Grand Cherokee... we'll see... stay tuned for further adventures with veggie oil. :) I could see a Blazer and Grand Wagoneer scenario... Oh yeah, the differences in size between the full size Blazer and the full size Jeep are minimal. My major dislike of my '83 GMC Jimmy's was the width... they felt bloated... the restyled K1500 is much closer to the SJ: wheelbase, overall length and width: 1991 Grand Wagoneer 108.7 186.5 75.6 1994 Chevy Blazer 111.5 187.7 76.4 Blazer vs. GW: 2.8 longer wheelbase 1.2 inches longer 0.8 inches wider Have over 12K invested in Omega but I'm only asking $7,500 for it and would deliver it any where we can drive it for return air fare and travel costs. ;) Would love to deliver it to Alaska... East Coast would be fine as well... Only incomplete project on Omega is the cruise control. It has a few minor but annoying fuel leaks... need to get some Viton tubing... running great now. A/C works... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2008 09:12:29 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] dimension comparisons On Wed, 30 Jul 2008, Stephen Rigley wrote: # Wow it looks huge inside compared to our XJ! # > http://wagoneers.com/tmp/Blazer/ALL.html dear info junkies: in response to the comments: :) I find it interesting that my '91 300D is narrower than my son's '85 300D, but longer... also interesting to see the difference in width. I hated my '83 GMC, it was way too wide... Jim Blair came by last night with a full size Chevy pickup... same size as my '83 Blazer was, about 79.6 inches wide... the thing felt massively wider than my Grand Wagoneer... the '94 K1500 Blazer will be much better... heading to Eastern Washington tomorrow afternoon to pick it up. :) - ---------------------- Dimensions sorted by WIDTH: vehicle WB - length - Width =======================-----------------------===== 124 - 300D (1991) 110.0 186.6 68.5 123 - 300D (1985) 110.0 186.0 70.3 XJ - Jeep Cherokee 101.4 165.3 70.5 1999 WJ -Grand Cherokee 105.9 181.5 72.3 1991 Grand Wagoneer 108.7 186.5 75.6 1994 Chevy Blazer K1500 111.5 187.7 76.4 1983 J10 Stepside (SJ) 118.8 194.0 78.9 1991 GMC Jimmy/Blazer 106.5 184.8 79.6 - -------------------------------------------------- '94 Blazer vs. '91 Grand Wagoneer: 2.8 longer wheelbase 1.2 inches longer 0.8 inches wider '94 Blazer vs. '99 Grand Cherokee: 5.6 longer wheelbase 6.2 inches longer 4.1 inches wider '94 Blazer vs. '91 300D: 1.5 longer wheelbase 1.1 inches longer 7.9 inches wider - -------------------------------------------------- sorted by WB: vehicle WB - length - Width =======================-----------------------===== XJ 101.4 165.3 70.5 1999 WJ -Grand Cherokee 105.9 181.5 72.3 1991 GMC Jimmy/Blazer 106.5 184.8 79.6 1991 Grand Wagoneer 108.7 186.5 75.6 124 - 300D (1991) 110.0 186.6 68.5 123 - 300D (1985) 110.0 186.0 70.3 1994 Chevy Blazer K1500 111.5 187.7 76.4 1983 J10 Stepside (SJ) 118.8 194.0 78.9 sorted by LENGTH: vehicle WB - length - Width =======================-----------------------===== XJ 101.4 165.3 70.5 1999 WJ -Grand Cherokee 105.9 181.5 72.3 1991 GMC Jimmy/Blazer 106.5 184.8 79.6 123 - 300D (1985) 110.0 186.0 70.3 1991 Grand Wagoneer 108.7 186.5 75.6 124 - 300D (1991) 110.0 186.6 68.5 1994 Chevy Blazer K1500 111.5 187.7 76.4 1983 J10 Stepside (SJ) 118.8 194.0 78.9 - ---------------------------- specs: 1994 Chevy Blazer Dimensions Exterior Length: 187.7 in.
