I couldn't stop the hot air blowing out the side vents of the 190. Vacuum measured ok right up to the firewall. So I did some dashboard surgery today. Out came the glovebox, down came the passenger under panel cover. Then I played around all morning trying to work a vacuum gauge connection into the vacuum manifold. Before giving up, I tried to take off the whole dash fascia (too much work) before I hit on the idea of popping out the side vent. Once it was out, I could see the switchover valve from above. I realized the whole mess was held in by one plastic clip and a nylon tie wrap. Cut the tie wrap, popped it out of the clip, and it dropped out the bottom, with all the connectors in place. Five minutes to find the leak, and viola! Fixed. I have to say, the shop manual provided zero help. All it had to say was "cut the tie wrap", and I could have saved two hours of backbreaking work.
