Previous owner or wayward mechanic (the guy lived in Darrington, (backwoods town) and had the local shop work on it) really torqued the injectors last time they were R&R'd, so much that I had to use a 24" breaker bar and all my strength to get them out. The crushable washer for the number 3 cylinder won't come out. I have tried a magnet, dental pick, and a small pointy chisel. Any thoughts on what I should do? Leave it in? Replace the injector and not worry about it? At Phil Smart Mercedes, the service writer transferred me right out to the shop and let me talk with one of the techs. He told me not to really worry about it and put in the new injector and leave it in place. If I was really concerned about it, I could try spraying it with WD40 or PB Blaster and letting it soak a little. He also suggested plugging up the hole and cranking the engine, thereby blowing it out with engine compression, (I personally think this would make a great video...maybe I can borrow a radar gun.....calculate trajectory....John sounds up your alley) At Conaway Motors where I usually take my Benz fleet for service items I am not really interested in doing. Seig one of the owners told me not to worry about it, put in the new injector and just drive it. When I get home tonight I squirt it with some PB Blaster and see what that gets me. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and can see where it makes mistakes in the auto mode. I'm not smart enough to use all the manual stuff but I've seen where I could manually set the fstop, shutter speed and the iso if I wanted to. My son has figured it all out but that just re-enforces the notion that you need a kid to program all this sophisticated stuff! And I'm a software engineer too! The car is fine, I'm just getting grief from the neighbors about it sitting there growing moss. So although I would prefer not to get rid of it, as I know there is not a chance I can replace it with something so reliable for the money I can get for it, sadly it needs to find a new home. It's white. Around 345,000 miles. Starts strong, glow plugs are fine. Idles well if you let it warm up a bit. This car will get you around town reliably. It's old and tired so you would want to treat it in a kindly fashion. This is not a race car, it is a granny car. I would not recommend it if you have a long commute. I put a different stereo in it as I wanted to be able to play CDs. I presume it would be a good candidate for biodiesel but I dont know anything about that. It would certainly be a good car if you want to teach your kid about fixing cars as it is very simple and straightforward. This car is over 25 years old and has a lot of minor issues. Major issues have been resolved since I bought it in ... 1999 I think it was. Transmission was replaced, starter was replaced, fixed the drivers window so it will roll down, things like that. Current primary issues are that the sun roof wont open, the blower is broken so it takes it forever to ooze enough heat to make you warm, and that it has a dead battery. Sun roof could be a fuse, I've never bothered to look. Blower is straightforward I just dont care enough to replace it, I wear a coat. And the battery is simply from not driving the car other than to relocate it periodically when the meter maid comes by and puts a sticker on it. If you jump start it the car roars right to life. An over night recharge may fix the battery problem, if not I'm willing to split the cost of a new battery. Overall this car is pretty reliable. It's not going to win any beauty pageants but it is going to get you from point A to point B for a long time as long as you dont abuse it. It is heavy, made with genuine german steel, so if you run into one of today's fiberglass and composite deathtraps you're almost guaranteed to win. As I said earlier I dont want to get rid of it as I know I can't replace it for it's value. But it is my 3rd car and I just have no where to leave it sit long term so it needs a new home before things escalate. Email me for a phone #. North Seattle location. As is, no warranty or guarantee implied. Asking $1000. ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2845 **********************************
