Right now the engine is the best part of that car (after the purchase price) so I doubt you'll have much luck with that approach John. =) - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:16:11 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] 240d - $1000 seattle on cl that's all I want too... ;) he can keep the car! no worries, those deals are out there... been in touch with mercedes wrecking yards, for $1500 I can get my driveline... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Wed, 27 Aug 2008, chuck goolsbee wrote: # >I'm thinking of putting a Mercedes Diesel into my J10... will probably keep # >the T-5 transmission/NP208, stock driveshafts... :) So if he decides that # >the 300SD isn't working out for him... And it WILL be my 1983 J10 Stepside. Superdawg! http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/superdawg-oct2000.jpg All the reasons for selling and getting the Blazer still make perfect sense... really... ;) The '94 Blazer with the 6.5L and all the creature comforts and refinements I was trying to build into Omega... but the Blazer is horribly BORING... and it's not a Jeep. ;) The 6.5L has a lot of aftermarket products for tuning and economy... and the prices are low because of GM induced ignorance (PMD issues mainly). The Omega project was a MAJOR success. My wife agreed it was suitable for a trip to South Dakota with the WJ leather seats, and it got 24 mpg! That, is what I consider success. A happy wife and fuel economy too! Had the '94 6.5L Blazer not surfaced I would have continued on with refinements... While Omega SHOULD have been my ultimate FSJ, it never really clicked with me... It's funny how Jeeps and Mercedes have unique "personalities" and characteristics. Out of the 24 FSJs I've owned only three have "clicked" with me: my first, the '67 Wagoneer http://wagoneers.com/fotos/johns-cars/67fsj.jpg the '81 Wagoneer Limited (Old Blue) http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/OldBlue/ and finally my '83 J10 Stepside (SuperDawg). http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/SuperDawg-83-J10-stepside/ I guess I still have "GrandWagoneerTailgateWindowPhobia"... despite Omega never having any issues... :) The 6.2L Diesel mounted on Novak mounts was the downfall... too much vibration... NEXT time... stock mounts for the engine with custom installations... like I've done when doing a swap/conversion... cheating and using pre-fab'd mounts for a gas engine is a short cut I will NOT take. ...who knows, maybe the Blazer will be the donor vehicle... keep that pop corn a poppin'. If it stops raining this weekend I'm rebuilding my carport... have the trusses and a plan... then will borrow my neighbor's flat bed trailer and haul SuperDawg home.... If all goes well he should be tucked away in the back of my carport before October... nice and dry and ready for some long term TLC. :) Next step will be the acquistion of the Diesel powertrain... so many options to consider... - - 6.5L TD/AT out of a Suburban or Pickup? - - 4bt, or even a 6bt? - - mercedes 2.5 or 3.0l TD mated to my existing T-5/NP208? - - 6.2 with a banks? Would prefer an AT but not opposed to using my existing t-5/208 or even an nv4500. Joe in Everett has a 4bt in an FSJ chassis with a Willys Pickup cab and flat bed on it... so I have a model to follow. Was reading "DieselPower" and found a kit to retrofit a Chevy with a Cummins... $399! http://www.avalancheengineering.com/new_products.html they show an M715 with one! http://www.avalancheengineering.com/m715.htm it mounts between the frame rails as a bolt in and holds the Cummins... The 4bt supposedly clears the front diff and hood... this one is interesting... Or maybe I'll put the Cummins in the Blazer and the 6.5 in Superdawg... :) In other news, it's odd, not a single serious contact about the '99 WJ! Gas prices really are hurting the sale of nice WJs. The WJ hasn't moved in a month... thinking that since I tolerate the IFS in the Blazer that a WK with the CRD would be a nice replacement for the WJ/Blazer/300D when Superdawg is done... and the prices drop to 4 digits. The two vehicle plan is holding up... current: Blazer and the Benz. future WK/CRD and the J10? we'll see... the options just keep popping.... ;) that said, enjoy your popcorn... go easy on the salt and butter so you be around to enjoy the long term entertainment, compliments of the snohomish monster carport... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2846 **********************************
