(test part). thinking about the Mercedes 300GD. I may have the opportunity to go to Europe for a couple of months... started looking into the importing of older vehicles, if it's 21yrs or older, epa doesn't care, if it's 25 yrs or older it's pretty much a simple task... that means I could bring back something 1983 or older... of course it'll be Diesel... of course some US models could be imported that were newer... hmmmm... I wonder if I could bring back a WJ with a Diesel. Does anyone know the rules? john '94 Blazer - simply boring '91 300D '99 WJ - for sale '83 J10 - in pieces 105 miles away ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Sep 2008 16:13:11 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] veggie oil tanks - eat your popcorn... giving serious thought to supplementing the fuel system on my '94 blazer, and then maybe my 300D... to run straight veggie oil, heated and filtered of course... will do the same kind of thing to my J10 later... rather than paying $1800 - $3000 for one of the greasy kit setups with heated lines and tanks and stuff I'm thinking that I can use a Marine fuel tank in the cargo area, or the trunk... maybe even underneath... there is room... one in particular "may" work, need to measure, http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|302335|7364|939818|940755&id=940465 it's 18 gallons 36.50"L x 18.25"W x 7.25"H or http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|302335|7364|939818|940755&id=940618 Permanent Below Deck Fuel Tanks 27 Gallon / 102 Litre 36.50"L x 16.00"W x 11.75"H I like the height of the first one... I could build a false floor over the top of it in the back, and it'll be low enough to not affect the CG much at all. routing the return lines and such could be interesting... if I go in through one of the side panels I will reduce the damage to the vehicle... underneath might be a better solution... Then I'll get the heated fuel lines, solenoid and be able to run SVO out of this tank, and BioDiesel/Diesel out of the stock tank. These tanks are a lot less expensive than friedbird, greasycar or goldenfleece, those folks want nearly a grand for a tank... they charge $90 for a $60 valve too... so I'll be piecing this thing together like a full size Jeep... :) sheesh... looking at the heat exchangers now... $200-300 bucks... guess I'll use Jason's (dbl) idea: http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/TECH/WVO/heater/ have plenty of room in the Blazer, not so sure I'll do this for the Benz... to make this work I need a solenoid to switch to the other tank, a pump to move the fuel, a good filter, a heater to heat the veggie oil and of course a tank to put it... placing the filler will be interesting... and potentially messy... :) So, building my own should be doable even with some of the expensive parts for less than $500, or around $300 if I go totally Bohemian on this... :) oh, if you guys could save the oil from your popcorn for me... :) I need the fuel... thanx, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2850 **********************************
