YES... this would be BETTER than a 300GD or an XJ... two problems... 1) don't have 12K Euros, or even 12K USD. ;) 2) not going to Europe after all... :( However, when the prices get under 10K USD over there, what's that, about 8K E? I might look into bringing one over... The WJ is a superb Jeep... the only slight downside is the A pillar visibility issue, which one quickly adapts to. Heading up to Jasper/BC Glacier in a few days... thinking about taking the WJ, but with BioDiesel in cans I can make a significant part of the trip without hitting refueling stations and save money for important things like hotel and food. ;) Pictures to follow. BTW, Omega is last reported on a truck heading east on I-90 in Ritzville, WA... east of Moses Lake, west of Spokane... on it's way to Maryland to the new owners. :) I got the 4" exhaust setup in my '94 Blazer and it's doing nicely... going to put a pair of leather WJ seats in tonight for the trip... also hooking up some IPF foglights... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Fri, 5 Sep 2008, Andreas Kreft wrote: # Am Middeweken 03 September 2008, hest Du schrieven: # # Just returned from vacation and read the news: # # > Hmm.. Banff and Glacier and the Rockies are amazing... went through there in '84... putting the leather WJ seats in the blazer, upgrading the rear speakers and then running up to get some bioDiesel for the trip... would prefer to take the 300D, but those seats would kill our backs... also the reason I'm putting the wj seats in, the blazer seats are the best gm seats I've ever had, but my lumbar still isn't happy with them... wouldn't mind taking the WJ, but it doesn't run on biodiesel... :( plan to take off Sunday morning... picked a good time, looks like the weather will be nice for a few days, and the union folks at work are planning on taking some time off too. btw, Omega is heading east... tracking reports he's in MT heading to SLC, ultimate location is MD. when we get back I'll get back to work on the carport and drag superdawg home... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Sep 2008 16:57:48 -0700 From: Tom H Subject: Re: [db] RE: Diesel thoughts... I have friends in Arizona, Colorado, Maryland and New York. Based on what they tell me, I doubt you could register such a vehicle in those states either. Are WA and OR that easy? I bought a motorhome in Oregon once. The tags were long expired. The Oregon DMV didn't care. They just gave me a three day trip permit for a few dollars and said good luck. California wouldn't let me register it without it passing SMOG check. It had some EGR problems so it couldn't pass SMOG. I tried to fix it and get it tested, but it's illegal for me to drive it on the street because it's not registered. They actually wanted me to come in to the DMV each time I was ready to take it to be tested and get a 1 day permit to move it on the street. Catch 22. You get the idea. That motorhome is sitting, illegaly I might add, in my side yard to this day. You can't posess an unregistered vehicle in California. If you aren't operating it, you have to register it non-operational. They wouldn't let me register it non-op until I first got it past the SMOG check. Oh yeah. It's also illegal for me to sell it in California. Boy, I love this state. :-( Hey, did anyone in California note that an assembly bill just passed that requires SMOG checks on 1998 and later diesel vehicles with GVWR under 14,000 lbs? CARB is having public hearings with the BAR to help work out the program implementation. Based on the existing SMOG Check II program for all gasoline powered vehicles manufactured after 1975, this out to really blow some minds. Wait until all my friends with their worked over, diesel pick ups find out that they have to remove their $2,000 Gale Banks systems in order to make it legal and pass the SMOG check program just like happened with cars. Based on past history, I'll wager that there will be some bitching, and then people will just fall in line as they have before. Say, doesn't the US Constitution protect me from illegal search and seizure? Isn't law enforcement required to get a warrant to enter my personal property based on reasonable suspicion that I posses illegal property or am engaged in illegal activity? So why then can a state body order me to bring my vehicle in for an inspection to see if it has been illegally modified without a warrant? Oh wait, I don't have to do it. I just can't get it registered if I don't cooperate. Great legal angle there.
