(My '94 Blazer with a 6.5L Diesel had one of those Diesel Catalytic/particulate thing on it... had... ;) If I'm not mistaken sulfur provided some lubricant properties and when they went low sulfur they caused a lot of issues with Diesel pumps failing... California ARB was taken to court in a class action suit and lost... you can google on that episode and see if you can find technical info on it. I don't think it'll impact combustion or the sensors controlling combustion, but it'll wreak havoc with the particulate trap... you could remove that... I'll check with a mechanical engineer friend to see if there are other issues related to sulfur... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Wed, 29 Oct 2008, Alec Cordova wrote: # I'm not a chemist or an engine designer, so I'll forward your # questions to the diesel benz list and the original mercedes mailing # list. # Basically, what are the consequences of using high-sulfur diesel in a # new MB CDI engine? # # My first concern would be with any kind of exhaust treatment installed # on the car, particularly if it relies on any catalytic reactions, # since sulfur would likely play havoc with those systems. As they are only sales people and I do not expect them to explain to me in detail the WHY, I assumed that the common rail system has a problem running on old high sulfur diesel (stuf of which I am learning now and you have clarified a lot of in the first link above). I guess having HOPE is more important when it's local and personal. Besides, they do have good BBQ at this place... and just down the hill is Burger and More! If you eat there, order fries, I need the WVO... :) Up the clearview hill is a new place by the Cathcart Hardware store called Mongos that has fantastic food... again, eat your fries... ;) the rest of the shots are fall colors and confused birds... not sure what's up with the birds flying north... aren't they supposed to fly south? also, reworked and cleaned up my main page on http://wagoneers.com one more wall to build in the shop and doors for the front... :) then siding and more cleanup to make room for superdawg... still no engine... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2893 **********************************
