A 5 speed transmission would be useful... anyone got one for a Mercedes? john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/ SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:00:46 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] 300GD anyone know where I can get a 5 speed transmission? :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/ SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 12:28:43 -0600 From: Allen Zylstra Subject: RE: [db] 300GD It time to buy more popcorn> Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:00:46 -0800> From: john-at-wagoneers.com> To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net> Subject: [db] 300GD> > anyone know where I can get a 5 speed transmission? :)> > john> > -----> - ------------------------------------------------------------------------> Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold> http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/> SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf> SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com> SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461> - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ _________________________________________________________________ Access your email online and on the go with Windows Live Hotmail. http://windowslive.com/Explore/Hotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_hotmail_acq_access_1 12008 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 12:18:39 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] 300GD vs 4.2L J10 On Wed, 19 Nov 2008, Kevin wrote: # I'm guessing he took your offer. # I'd be looking at ebay.de myself. # On Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 10:00:46AM -0800, john wrote: # > anyone know where I can get a 5 speed transmission? :) well, he didn't exactly "take the offer", but said, "considering the market, let's talk". :) He's a practical guy... reasonable... nice young guy with good upbringing... ;) I don't know... it's a lot of money for something that is probably a very good investment... I think this is insane idea... so, you say, what's new? ;) checked on new gearing... just called randy's r&P... nada, zip, nothing... stuck with 5.38's or whatever is in these things... that's not an option... at least not through normal channels... some calls up into BC might produce better results... know of a euro style non-turbo 300DT (wagon) that's for sale... called on it... 4 speed... that's not an option... and it's overpriced too... $2k for manual windows, non-turbo, 4speed with mismatched fenders??? the automatics have a final of 1:1... that's not an option... a turbo would wind up tighter and move it easier, larger tires might help... found an article on putting 35's on it... not eager to take a sawzall to something like this though... that's not an option... Can I live with a top speed of 55 mph? Can I live with a 4 speed manual gear box in traffic? Can I live without a/c? (ok, that's a no-brainer in the Pacific NW) Can I live w/o cruise control? :) ok, for traffic as a daily driver probably... but as a good friend always says, "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". :) I don't know... I think I should buy the J10 that's not put together and use the parts to build Superdawg... and build another J10 as a Diesel Project... Maybe a 300GD is beyond my socio-economic class. ;) Like I told the guy. I like the "idea" of the 300GD... but a 4 speed with no a/c and a top speed of 55 mph, even at 21 mpg, just doesn't make sense when I have a fully equipped 6.5L Turbo Diesel with a very good a/c, cruise control and a top speed that will get me in trouble even while pulling a trailer... :) and it's paid for... it's getting at least 17 in town now... and I don't drive it as much... should probably keep it until I get my J10 built... The J10 is a good investment too... but less practical as it only has one extra seat... the 300GD would do the WVO runs ok... but with a lighter trailer or in the back... A J10 is American... a 300GD is German... but since I'm both that doesn't help. :) dang, wish I had funds and facilities to get this thing... and keep what I have. :) reading an article about the g-wagens... the xfr case if fully syncronized so you can use low range to get a heavy load moving... shift into high and 2wd on the fly... have tried that before with my 2.1L TD XJ... didn't work all that well, but did work... :) my wife doesn't care what I drive... as long as we don't have a car payment and she doesn't have to ride in it or look at it... selling the blazer and my j10 will cover the cost of this thing... we'll use the WJ for trips and she'll drive the 300D for errands... so logistically it works just fine as a daily driver... but I'm still kind of choking on this one... timing isn't quite right... that and no one is beating down my door to buy the blazer... can't imagine why? ;) doesn't everyone want a chevy??? ;) the only reason I have one is it's a Diesel... I can't go wrong on buying the 300GD as an investment though... but I can't afford to make an investment right now. ;) how's the butter on that popcorn? ;) I'm thinking that the Blazer needs a quieter muffler... and that's a bit less expensive than a 300GD... anyone interested in this 300GD? I can meet with the guy, take detailed pictures and negotiate with him for you... I may end up selling myself on it... need more time with it... Once I have a full list of issues I can work on the price... They really do ride nice and are quiet... solid vehicles.... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/ SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 12:20:01 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: RE: [db] 300GD amen. ;) the entertainment is free, you're on your own for the butter and salt though. ;) don't wait too long to get your refreshments, this saga probably won't last much past the cartoons... ;) ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/ SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Wed, 19 Nov 2008, Allen Zylstra wrote: # It time to buy more popcorn > Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:00:46 -0800> From: # john-at-wagoneers.com> To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net> Subject: [db] 300GD> > anyone # know where I can get a 5 speed transmission? :)> > john> > -----> ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 13:02:57 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] more tech info just found specs on the w460: 88 hp -at- 4400 rpm 172 Nm -at- 2400 rpm top speed: 127 km/h (79 mph) stock tire size appears to be 255 75 r15. 4,140 lbs curb weight... http://www.redcougar.ca/mb_g-wagon.htm hmmm... this means that pushing SuperDawg around with an MB TD isn't such a bad idea... ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com/fotos/fotomeister/ SAVE power, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE yourself: http://freegift.com SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 13:36:00 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] 300GD vs 4.2L J10 On Wed, 19 Nov 2008, Kevin wrote: # Heh.
