(I think it's different between the coupe and the convertible.) With too strong a headwind, it may not reach that or be able to hold it for long, but I have felt the pullback in mine when you reach the limiter. It's not jarring; I simply lose all acceleration when I hit it. It's very happy around 75 or 80MPH, and I think it returns right around 40MPG there, although I have not yet had any lenghty run at that speed, like the road trip I should take either to visit my mother in Houston or my sister in Dallas. Need to see Mom over Christmas. She just had a hip replaced, and was very excited about it. Just last weekend I did an extended run around the greater Austin area, mostly for the specific purpose of getting a mileage reading. I was reminded that we have some wonderful scenery on the west side of Austin where the Texas "Hill Country" begins (it really is beautiful, with the Colorado river running through, Lake Travis, and that whole area), but I didn't take the toll road for most of the run, so through a little over 200 miles, I had some extended sections with traffic lights along the state highways, and there were some wonderfully hilly and winding sections where, I must confess, I did not drive in hyper-mileage mode. That was the 48.5MPG run. I just wish the suspension were more compliant and refined in town, although it does make for a very stable ride at speed. The US doesn't get the weaker gas engine or the diesel in the smart, so I don't know how well they pull, and the newly announced Brabus edition for us is just suspension and cosmetics. We're not yet getting the turbo-gasser engine that approaches 100HP, as opposed to the stock 70HP. It still gets more looks, and especially more smiles, than what I otherwise might have bought to replace the 89 300CE, which was a gorgeous teal metallic 1979 W116 300SD, but the smiles that Benz would have received would have been more knowing. ;-) Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 08 smart fortwo, 12K > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net > [mailto:owner-diesel-benz-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of john > Sent: Saturday, December 06, 2008 10:10 PM > To: jasonbassett-at-juno.com > Cc: diesel-benz-at-digest.net > Subject: Re: [db] 3.54 gears/235s equal a sweet spot with the SD33 > > > sure, they'll let anything on the autobahn as long as it's > capable of doing > at least 60 km... that's 37 mph...
