With a wedding soon to happen, no word yet... need the money from selling all the other rigs. :) Have to work on the axle ratios for SuperDawg with the 3.3L Nissan Turbo Diesel. I'm buying the engine with the adapter and a T-18 that needs a 2nd gear syncro... I figure I can attach my T-5, or use the AT out of the CJ-10A. But then I'd have to set it up... so I think the T-5 is my best option... better power transfer, overdrive... I would think that 4.10s in Superdawg will be the best option with 235s and the T-5. Will have it all. ;) The Nissan 3.3L Turbo Diesel I'm getting may need a rebuild... not sure... wondering if I shouldn't go with a Cummins 4BT rather... would suspect it would be a lot heavier and a lot noiser... I'm getting the 3.3 TD and T18 for $650... A Cummins sans gearbox will be about 2k... anyone got the specs for a 4bt? ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Wed, 17 Dec 2008, Kevin wrote: # J10, even if you just put a gasser six back in it and call it done. # The benz will take too much for you to be happy with it, and I don't # thing the airport tug is useful enough. # # Sometime next year when I get to shorten the commute, the jetta might get # displaced. Since it's a 4x4 with plenty of ground clearance it's not likely to fall on his head like that one green car did during the Duval earthquake a few years ago... good thing he has a hard head or would never have met him. He's a good friend and very helpful when it comes to anything with wheels... I can hardly wait to hear what his vote is... I suspect it'll be for the J10 as well. ;) However, the 300GD has some nice features... locking diffs, manual, fully synchronized transfer case, that means in and out of 4wd low while moving... a simple interior, solid axles... and of course a solid Mercedes Diesel... Because the xfr case is divorced mount I can put an updated MB Diesel and trans in place of it... like one of these: - -1991 300d 2.5 Turbo Diesel chassis 124.128 /engine 602.962 - -1987 300d 3.0L chassis 124.133 /engine 603.960 But I don't need to do anything to it... The J10 looks better than the 300GD... and I just noticed that the CJ-10A hasn't been mentioned... since I don't have axles for it I may just try driving it as is for a bit... may try to remove the bed to see how much it weighs... or just put it up on ebay after I get the Nissan Diesel into my J10... the CJ-10A was purchased as a donor vehicle with the intent of populating it with another factory type drivetrain, i.e. the 4.2L T-18. So this race looks to be between the 300GD (which I don't own and will have to purchase with real money, which I also don't have) and the J10 (which I do have, or will have back in Snohomish in a few weeks). The 300GD is ready to go... needs nothing... the J10 is in a variety of pieces and piles 105 miles south of here, with the proposed 3.3L Turbo Diesel 300 miles away... My J10 was my favorite FSJ... Omega was a nice Grand Wagoneer, but we just didn't bond... not sure why, but it never felt the same to me as SuperDawg did. The J10 with the stepside is a bit ugly, especially from the rear, but there is still something about a 3/4 view of that thing from the front that just looks so cool. of course my wife and son will be quick to remind me of that nice chevy blazer in the driveway that does it all... but it's a big boring chevy... no class, not much quality, the only thing that vehicle has going for it is the Diesel engine... and quite frankly I don't need that much Diesel engine... the most I need to haul is a yard of gravel DOWN the hill every now and then... ;) Speaking of Chevys... they did TWO things right on that Blazer. One of course is the 6.5L Turbo Diesel... it starts right up, runs flawlessly, has gobs of power, easy to work on and for the weight of the truck, economical... the Second thing they did right was the ABS. The Blazer has the BEST ABS I've ever suffered through... it sounds like someone having a minor indiscretion under the hood... but it doesn't violently make your leg feel like you just stepped on a high voltage line, neither does the pedal sink to the floor like in the Benz or the Jeep... and it also does not work at all at slow speeds... which is what one wants... when in snow or four wheeling... the jeep has it right too on this issue. Anyway, I need to build an If-Then-else diagram to work this decision. :) http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/options-2008.html Like maybe, IF the guy will sell the 300GD for X$, and the Blazer sells for X$, and I can find a 602 or 603 and 96x trans, and the snow melts, THEN... ;) The J10 is nicer looking and more practical for hauling WVO, but it's not as practical for hauling people and computers... If a barrel of WVO could be put in the back of the 300GD than it solves a number of issues, other than funding... :) Hoping to do some work this weekend on my Jeeps... we'll be in a cold snap, down in the 20's supposedly, with snow on the ground.... I should be fine... was just out moving some stuff around in the shop in a sweatshirt. Kind of funny, my son was freezing at 40 degrees the other day and I was out there in shirtsleeves... he spent too much time in Arizona. ;) so, at this point the J10 is in the lead and I have to come up with $650 for the 3.3L Turbo Diesel and T18 from back "east"... :) I don't know how far apart my J10 still is... but planning on the worst. :( john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Thu, 18 Dec 2008, Michel Balea wrote: # # J10 rules.... and besides the G300 is green, Jim will not touch it. # # > Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2008 08:16:40 -0800 # > From: john-at-wagoneers.com # > To: jslash-at-sbcglobal.net # > CC: fsj-at-digest.net # > Subject: fsj: Re: [db] decisions, decisions... # > # > it looks good, is lighter and is actually # > the old Willys box. # > # > makes the truck look smaller... # > # > also, without corners and wheel wells # > stuff doesn't get stuck. # > # > john # > # > ----- # > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ # > Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold # > http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com # > SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf # > SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 # > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ # > # > # > On Thu, 18 Dec 2008, Jim Hoffman wrote: # > # > # Yo John, # > # # > # I'm trying to figure out why your so enamored with that stepside # > # box. Hmmm......you seem to be forgetting something: we have had this discussion before, and the conclusion was that any Cummins would simply be too heavy for a non-full-size Jeep. You just can't comfortably put that much weight in the front of a vehicle that is otherwise so light and have it be safe. If you really want to have the discussion again, I'll munch along, but I wouldn't bank on much munching from others.... 8^) BTW, This is coming from a machine with no hard drive; I'm trying out a LiveCD Linux distro intended for rescuing messed-up Windoze boxes.....it's very nicely done! (As you can see!) www.systemrescuecd.org (not for the faint of IT, but very usable for those who know their bits! And not really that difficult, if you have even a rudimentary understanding of *ix OSes.)
