I'd get the one from Costco... much better quality... I had the one from Schucks, it got damaged during setup... had splints, hose clamps and tie wraps holding it together... there are metal ones that you might consider as well... a bit more cost, but much more durable... any chance you could build a shed roof off the side of your garage like I did or are you restricted by homeowners or city codes? it would be a temporary structure so the county wouldn't have issues with it... I've had mine up since '94, they even tax me on it. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Mon, 22 Dec 2008, Bruce Caruthers wrote: # The ridge tube/pipe snapped in two places, and the middle joint # landed on the roof of the car (with all the snow and branch stuff # centered on that). I was able to escape... the WJ ('99 Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V8 - Quadradrive) made it out! The Jeep name has been vindicated... I put on a bit of a smoke show halfway up the hill, but made it... needed to go to the store, and the temperature dropped a bit, allowing more bite. Soon as I got back from the store I tried the '94 K1500 6.5L Turbo Diesel Blazer, all 3 tons of it on new m/s tires... it got almost to the top but wouldn't progress for anything... tried the paved drive, nothing... but smoke... It ended up sideways on the gravel drive, quite the "E-ticket" ride coming back down... getting three tons sideways on my hill and sliding down toward the Panel is NOT fun, especially when it's tipping toward my side... it wouldn't be so bad, but the slide is not linear in motion, it abruptly goes, then stops, and abruptly stopping sideways on a side hill in a three ton GM vehicle is simply not a recommended adventure. But wanting to be completely fair, I decided to make a run up the drive backwards... that did not end very well either... almost ended up in the neighbor's vegetable garden 20 feet over and 15 feet down... :) I figured the Blazer was going to be a yard ornament until things melted, but I got it out and put my big toy away... :) pictures (of course) at: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/12-Dec-22-escaped-2008 But, needing to get to work at least one day this week, I've parked my WJ up in the upper field... :) Have Jeep, will travel... sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to get out though. I'm wondering if some of it may have to do with tires... I mean, sure, you have a 4X4 but most of your weather is rain and clouds ;) Not much snow so you may not invest in "snow" tires. I have "snowflake" rated tires on my RAM diesel. Those tires have a very aggressive tread. I just drove through 15-20" of snow in my yard yesterday without a problem. And this was hard packed stuff. Take away a few inches, add an incline and I still think those tires would pull through.
