Mark tried to get his car out and I had to pull him out of the way with the Blazer... We did managed to pull the bed off the '86 CJ-10A... then went into Everett to get gas for my torch... came home and torched the rivets holding the rear bumper and hitch setup... then we torched the welds off the ballast and got it loose... took us the better part of an hour to get that hunk of steel out of that pocket and onto the ground, where it'll probably remain until we get heavy equipment in the drive. ;) Solid chunk of steel... large... Not sure how much weight was removed... but it took two of us to slide the rear bumper outside... we can't move the bed... the ballast was very dangerous, once it started moving we just got out of it's way. :) some local shots and the CJ-10A without the bed... http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/12-Dec-29-still-thawing-CJ-10A-bed-off/ALL.html shots during torch work... http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/29-Dec-2008-bed-n-ballast-removal/ALL.html side trip to pick up the C6/NP205 in the pictures above for the '67 J100 Panel project (Ford 460 from the '74 Javelin) , and very nice shots of the Olympics: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/12-Dec-28-rain-on-snow-Kingston-Edmonds-ferry/ Next step on the Tug is to get a pair of fenders of some kind, run two boards across the top of the frame, mount the lights and head for an emissions test as soon as the snow clears in the driveway... this thing seems like it got an extra gear... it actually accelerates out of the carport now... there is hope for this little turd. Will drive it around like this for a bit to see how I like it before I start looking at swapping axles and making it a 4x4. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2008 12:35:19 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: [db] cj-10a ballast weight measured the ballast from the '86 cj-10a, 4.75 x 19.75 x 45.5 inches... couple different steel calculators on line estimated the weight between 1,210 lbs and 1,283 lbs. no wonder we had so much trouble moving it around... who wants to come over and help load it in the trailer? what's it worth??? john http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/29-Dec-2008-bed-n-ballast-removal/ALL.html ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2008 13:01:51 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: [db] Re: fsj: cj-10a bed, ballast and bumpers just called a metal company... 1,210lbs confirmed... 8 months ago it would have been worth $110. I'd try autotrader.com, ebay or cl... autotrader has an unlimited posting and decent coverage... ebay is a good bet especially since you can post for free now, pay only if you sell, and of course CL, but put in there no shipping, local sales, etc. and that cuts some of the scammers out, NEVER put a phone number in a CL ad... if you get a response from hotmail, yahoo, gmail or any of the other free emails consider it with greater skeptism. if their grammar is horrible, report 'em to craigslist or just ignore 'em. forget about carfax, it's FUD and often in error... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 30 Dec 2008, Tom H wrote: # john wrote: # > have some stuff for sale on Craigslist and know enough # > # www.cars.com is really no better - and you have to pay $55 to post the ad. # # Some of you may remember that I'm trying to sell my step-daughter's 2005 Audi # Quattro roadster for her. She lives in the city, posted in Craig's list and # then had weirdos calling her and we were concerned about her taking a test # drive with some freak she didn't know anyway. Plus, being in the city (SF) # it sat out on the street all the time and would be an easy mark once it was # located, especially since it is a cloth topped roadster. # # Well, in my infinite wisdom, I offered to keep it at our house and handle the # sale for her. Wanting to broaden the exposure, I paid a hefty fee to post it # on cars.com and attach a CARFAX report. I was foolish enough to list my work # cell phone number for contact. Let the games begin. # # Right away, I was getting these calls from LA and Minneapolis, usually when I # was in the middle of a meeting at work and someone, with a lot of noise in # the background and that awful time delay from cell-to-cell would ask me if # the car was still for sale and then go into a list of questions about it. # All those questions were answered in the ad, but wanting to sell it, I'd go # along answering them at first. Then, they'd tell me they were from some # company XYZ and they wanted to "help me sell the car". After my initial # shock, I started getting pissed off and hung up. But, they'd sometimes call # four times in a day and I ended up screaming obscenities into the phone # warning them not to call again. But I got the impression this just egged # them on. # # And, I got a few email responses where they "offered" me some low ball # figure, like $15,000 "cash if the title is clean" even though they'd never # seen the car. I didn't even respond. Maybe the title was "dirty". # # It's been four months and not one soul has even come to see the car. I've # lowered the price and find I'm considerably lower than any equivalent # offering on Ebay, cars.com, Craig's list or other ads. And, perusing the # consummated deals on Ebay, I'm actually offering a very good price at this # point. I'm guessing it's a really lousy time to be selling a car, new or # used. Unless I want to buy one of course, as I recently did, then I have to # pay premium dollar for it. That's the story of my life: If I want it, I # can't find anything priced where I think it's reasonable and, if I want to # sell it, I usually end up giving it away to a friend or relative because I # can't find a seriously interested party. # # Anyone want to buy a low mileage, 2005 Audi TT Quattro Roadster in very good # condition? ;-) # # http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=24&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-|E-ANY|M-_4_|H-|D-_3218_|N-N|R-50|I-1%2c7|P-PRICE+descending|Q-descending|S-_3_|Y-_2005_|X-popular|Z-94509&aff=national&paId=284537746&recnum=0&leadExists=true # # # Tom H., '87 300 SDL # Antioch, CA # ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 2008 12:02:13 -0800 From: "Greg Fiorentino" Subject: [db] Re: fsj: cj-10a bed, ballast and bumpers I imagine it must be made of cast iron. If so, it is not ideal for anvil material. Someone out there must need a ballast like that, maybe for a tractor. They probably would not want to pay for shipping though!
