Have decided to keep the '99 WJ and the '91 300d and have one other FSJ project... selling the '94 Blazer, the '86 cj-10a and later the trailer... Superdawg - '83 J10 stepside, or the '67 J100 Panel? I've been planning to rebuild my '83 J10 stepside with the parts from the '80 J10 (3.54 axles and 4.2L engine), and then later convert it to a Diesel... but in asking my son to reduce his fleet (he's got the '74 javelin with the 460, an '85 300D and the '67 Panel... (we're sharing it until he's done with school) he came up with the suggestion that I build the panel instead of giving it to him... He's attached to it but not so much that he would be happy with me having it... he just likes the looks of it... doesn't want us to part with it. So, that has me thinking... '83 J10 Stepside or '67 J100 Panel... from a practical standpoint both need a lot of work... both are rare and cool... both have benefits... the J10 is more to my liking, but not my wife's... the seats can't recline and it can't carry passengers... good point... we both have back troubles and it's important that any vehicle I build up allows her to recline the seat to relieve her back pain if we're going to be out driving for more than an hour or so... so it's important, but not critical since we have the WJ... The panel would be easy to fit the WJ seats in, add a/c, and so on... could even make it into a bit of a camper. ;) the other issue is getting WVO barrels loaded and unloaded... I think a barrel would fit in the back of the panel with the barrel lift... I could make a cargo area in the back that could be easily cleaned... not sure I want to wrestle barrels into the back of a J100 though... being able to stand upright to roll a barrel takes a lot of stress off of my back. Of course I could use that receiver hitch carrier too... just have a really solid hitch... probably the better solution, that's what I did with Omega. If I went with the panel I could make it nice... possibly useful as a daily driver if I used a Mercedes Diesel... I like the platform on top for photography work... I like the barn doors... it's a cool rig. If I went with the J10 I'd be happy, could easily make it a daily driver and use it for photography work as well... easier to get in the bed than on the top... but then there is the issue of the seats not reclining... wouldn't be able to take the J10 on extended trips without making my wife suffer... :( Too bad I'm not more skilled at body work... could make an extended cab J10... don't need a large bed for hauling WVO... have thought about hacking up a Grand Wagoneer before... who knows... making progress... :) have folks interested in the blazer and the cj-10a... so hoping for room in the drive soon... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2009 18:16:08 -0500 From: Edward Pomeroy Subject: Re: [db] Storaging engine & non DB post I'm going to be mean and nasty...... Jerry, if want to start building a new TR 2 around that engine ? You can have this tranny for freight cost. Condition unknown but it is clean and no visible external damage. I am told it is the one without overdrive. Open offer to anyone as it will clear enough floor space for me to put up the blaster cabinet.... Um, yikes. No pic, but 89 should be the second year of the new body style. Just clicks sounds like typical ford solenoid issue, might get some love by giving the solenoid on the fenderwell a good solid whack, otherwise you're looking at more expensive options - battery, starter, wiring, etc. And that assumes it has good compression and the transmission isn't trash, which, if it's an automatic, there's a good chance it's not happy. And if it's a four banger with automatic, a good running non-turbo 300D might give you a run for your money on the highway. while more expensive, a thousandish dollar beater is probably a better choice. In some ways, it would make more sense to drag that 1977 300D with rust on it up here and rust it more. Except for one major problem: There's no way on earth it would ever start in these winters. The compression is too low on it. Not to mention I never did get that #*%*&#(* vertical pushbutton climate control unit to work properly........also important when it's very cold out.........it irritated me in VA, where it never got colder than 20s.......we're expecting single digit HIGHS this week....... So.........what's a guy to do when he has no money? Should I start shamelessly advertising on the Diesel-Benz list? May I? At least to let you all know what I offer? Just once? I have a 99 Astro cargo van. It has been giving me headaches for the past two years with sticking fuel injectors. GM had a system with the actual injectors feeding little hoses with poppet valves at the ends. The poppet valves don't get along well with California gas. Well known problem, and GM has an extended warrantee on that stuff. Service Instruction #99066G. I called GM and verified that my van was eligible. The Service Instruction recommends replacing the injectors with a newer system with no poppets. I've been nursing it along by cleaning the injectors with one of those cannisters that hook to the air compressor. Last week, it got to the point where the van wouldn't start. I figured it was time to hit up Chevy for the extended warrantee. But I didn't feel good about having the van towed to the dealership. Cuz I figured they'd find some way to rape me, and there wouldn't be anything I could do about it. So I made what was probably a tactical error. I hooked up the cannister, cleaned the injectors, and got'er started on Friday. But it was still stumbling out of idle. Left it at the dealership this morning. They called me in the afternoon, said - your injectors seem to be OK, but you have a bad O2 sensor. Oh, and we don't like that aftermarket O2 sensor you installed in the other position. That'll be $240 for the diagnostic please. ..........grrrr............! ( No way those injectors are OK, wasn't that service droid listening when I told him how I've been cleaning them? ) I went back out there, got my van out of hock before they had a chance to rape me any worse.
