I much prefer a paid for vehicle that is reliable and gets me where I need to go. I pull into the parking lots in my ZJ and don't worry about door dings. It sits higher than most vehicles so there doors hit the plastic panels on the sides. I have had some ugly ones. 86 Nissan 4x4. It had 3 shocks and one fender still attached. Spidered windshield. 3 different sized tires, Barely working brakes, structural carpet for floors. Carabiner seatbelt latches. Seam on gas tank leaked. Yep I drove it daily, just not over 35mph. Just clicks sounds like typical ford solenoid issue, might get some love by giving the solenoid on the fenderwell a good solid whack, otherwise you're looking at more expensive options - battery, starter, wiring, etc. And that assumes it has good compression and the transmission isn't trash, which, if it's an automatic, there's a good chance it's not happy. And if it's a four banger with automatic, a good running non-turbo 300D might give you a run for your money on the highway. while more expensive, a thousandish dollar beater is probably a better choice.
