Flew down to Fresno this morning loaded for bear. Rear seats were out, the whole plane was full of jackstands, tools, parts, etc etc. I had a 9x12 paper "dropcloth" that I bought at the paint store. I laid it out and drove the car onto it. One challenge - the car had ATE calipers, and the replacements were Bendix. ( I hadn't known which to get ). So the new calipers had some funny spring thingies that I didn't know how to put in. Puzzle-puzzle-puzzle. I think I got it right - there were a couple of wear nicks from old springs that were a hint. They're not taut tho. Kind of rattly. Following advice from folks here, I brought along a brand new 24" breaker bar. It was plenty strong, but it was hard to get enough swing. A fellow pilot wandered by and bent my ear for a while. I pressed him into service to help bleed the brakes. So I wound up not needing my Eezi-bleed after all. While I was at it, I topped up the A/C. Had a kit called "AC recharger for Dummies" that came with a can of R134A, and a charging hose with a meter. Not as good as a real charging manifold, but not nearly as much fuss, either. Got the car back together around 4:30 in the afternoon, hopped in the airplane and went back home. Still have one problem - no turn signals. The fuse is OK, there's juice at both sides. Unless it's a miscellaneous bad connection, it's gotta be either the flasher or the switch. Hope it's the flasher. I do NOT want to pull the steering wheel out at the airport! - Jerry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jan 2009 09:05:08 -0600 From: "Potter, Tom E" Subject: RE: [db] 300D has Brakes Don't the turn signals run through the emergency flasher switch? I think I had that problem once before. After I cycled the emergency flasher switch a few times, the turn signals started working. I think you just saved me fifty bucks and a trip to Fresno. In general, the problems with this car are those associated with long sitting. - Jerry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jan 2009 08:11:59 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: RE: [db] 300D has Brakes exactly what I was going to say. thanx. ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Thu, 15 Jan 2009, Potter, Tom E wrote: # Don't the turn signals run through the emergency flasher switch?
