Mine developed a new quirk today. I was in the right lane of 95 in Connecticut. A car pulled into the approach lane, and failed to notice me as he merged. I floored the car to get out of the way and....nothing happened. The engine revved to the redline, but the transmission went into neutral. All by itself. Manually downshifting didn't work. All I could do was drift. Fortunately, he braked hard and merged in behind me, but must have been surprised (and a bit scared) as I coasted down. Finally, at 20mph the tranny caught, and everything was ok. I don't even know where to begin with this one. BTW, there are no minor electrical problems with this car. They are always big. And the heater cores do tend to leak. I "fixed" mine with two bottles of Bar's Leak, but I'm sure there will be a price to pay for that. I did that to my '87 300 SDL about a year ago and went for a test drive and everything seemed fine. The next night, when leaving a party with my mother, brother-in-law and sister in the car, the engine started racing with no forward momentum after exiting the parking lot. I pulled over, ran the transmission through the gears a couple of times, and it managed to self-correct enough for me to get home. Of course, I had to endure the sneers of my family saying things like, "How many miles does this old thing have on it?"; "When are you going to buy a new car?"; "my Acura never gives me problems like this." and, "This is a Mercedes?". The next day, I rechecked the transmission fluid - which is difficult because it is so hard to see on the stick when you use Mobile 1 synthetic - and found it to be very low. An additional quart or two put things right and I haven't had any transmission related problems since.
