If people don't keep the oil changed properly in that 4.7L V8 it sludges up and has top end issues... I only run Amsoil synthetics so mine is doing great at 155K miles. Also, if you use the puss that the minute lubes and dealerships use and don't change it every couple thousand miles you'll also see top end failure... so there's a lot of WJs showing up needing engine work... and that engine work is EXPENSIVE. A wrecking yard will get nearly $2500 for a USED engine... a rebuild even done with local sources and labor can run 3-4k with labor! john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 20 Jan 2009, Travis Barnard wrote: # I've been recently looking into a replacement body for my beatup and # rather thrashed 300SD(I think Adam Sandler had a song about a car like this). # # The engine is in great shape 230K +/- very strong. Well, if that's what you want, the alldata procedure for replacing a heater core in an AC equipped 1991 volkswagen jetta is incorrect. Consult the dealer pdf (there was a recall for some, but the procedure is the same for the entire range of second gen jettas) or bentley service manual. Seen this on jeeps too - alldata has the wrong torque sequence and spec for the intake/exhaust bolts. Use the alldata procedure and you get to replace the gasket. Hopefully you used anti-seize to make your life a little easier the second time around :) On Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 10:54:38AM -0800, john wrote: > going through the heater core thing with my WJ (grand cherokee) as well. > fixed it with the same stuff... heater cores on these things are not > quite as bad as a volvo but still quite involved... > > appreciate learning about other models through this list... helps > one satisfy their curiousity without feeling too much pain... :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 16:28:27 -0800 From: Jerome Kaidor Subject: [db] OT: Fuel Injector Work Hi guys, Going to try to clean the fuel injectors on my 99 Astro, for real. They have a goofy poppet valve setup that sticks. I've been keeping the car running by cleaning them with one of those cannisters that you hook up to your air compressor. This time, I'm going to take the intake manifold apart ( it's a two-part clamshell, and the injectors are inside ). Will put the injectors in a bucket of cleaning solution and stick the bucket in my ultrasonic cleaner. A former mechanic friend of mine says that the hot ticket for cleaning these things is something called "Hoppes #9 Nitro Powder Solvent". ...So I just picked up a little bottle of same at the gun shop.
