Do not ask how I know this, nor what time I finally went to sleep that night ;) In case it's not obvious that I'm single, I've been considering getting a trailer capable of towing two cars at a time. In a John-esque analysis of fuel costs, a friend and I figured it would be substantially cheaper to put two trail rigs on a trailer behind the cummins or the powerstroke than to drive both of them to the trail and back. And the tow rig has A/C :) It would also make disposing of 'package deals' easier, like the pair of 87s I've been trying to get rid of (sideswiped 87 300D with good drivetrain and #17 head, 87 300TD with cracked head and some rust, but still solid for a driver). The panel's tempting, wasn't a fan of that vintage javelin - I liked the first generation javelins better myself. I'm seriously considering taking the 3.3L Nissan Diesel and TF727/NP208 out of my '86 CJ-10A and dropping it into a WJ... Question: Will all the accessories on the jeep work without the engine computer being able to talk to the engine? Doors, windows, heaters, and so on... If not I may swap the drivetrain from my '99 WJ (4.7) into the '01... 2nd Question: Would that work? I mean can I just swap an engine in a WJ of the same type and make all the stupid computers happy???? just keep that popcorn on standby... ;) if it's too complex, or the uniframe on the WJ won't handle an easy conversion I may just go with the XJ Diesel conversion... or just sell all of this stuff off and drive my '91 300D and call it good. ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://freegift.com http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com/fotos - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 2009 15:45:10 GMT From: "jasonbassett-at-juno.com" Subject: Re: [db] OT: The 2 Fords in my life You poor souls. My van didn't start this morning, and I wondered why until I discovered that it was about -15! I think it'll start later; I finally broke down and plugged the block heater in in addition to the battery charger. Jim, you probably didn't have fully functioning glow plugs. I learned the hard way that they die easily, and losing just one will keep a 240D parked if the temp is much below freezing. But with 4 good glow plugs plus the block heater, it always started like it was summertime. I didn't even use the block heater unless the temp was close to zero. Synthetic oil definitely helps, though. Not so molasses-ey. It wasn't turning well, then it got stuck on. Once I replaced it, it turned much better, and I never had a starting issue again until I let the battery get low at 4 degrees.
