(link to current pictures below) I found a used SD33T out of an '80 Scout... Question is could I take the turbo setup off of the SD33T and put it on my SD33? John: As a Scout enthusiast and a Terra owner, I've got to say a few things: No, the SD33T and naturally aspirated SD33 were different enough that the turbo swap might result in issues down the road. Scout newbies have been asking that question for years and we have some resident diesel experts that can tell you why. The '80 Terras with that turbo diesel are quite rare and sought after by us Scout guys. In fact, that is what I was looking for when I bought my 304 powered, automatic Terra back in 1984. I couldn't find a diesel for sale. It's sad to think of one being mangled for an engine. It's bad enough that you Jeep guys are always trying to get the Dana 44 axles from the Scouts. Why not just buy a Scout? Who is the owner of this Scout, I probably know of him? I'm quite familiar with the now-defunct Binder Bulletin and Bill Thebert who published the chart you referred us to. If this Terra has the original transfer case, it's a Dana 300 not a 20. Another rare and desirable item for us Scout folk. The output shafts are on the passenger side. This engine could be from the '70s and put into this '86. as far as wanting Scout Dana 44's, why? I've got SIX-lug Dana 44s from a Grand Wagoneer... why would I want scout stuff? :) and why would I want a Dana 300, they are massive... maybe the bobtail jeep types would be making a step up, but us Full Size Jeep owners wouldn't be... the terra in question is very rough, I'll put pictures up of it later... the guy was right, the body is all used up. :) I am mildly interested in the T19 though... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Sun, 5 Apr 2009, Tom H wrote: # diesel john wrote: # # I've got a 1986 CJ-10A with the factory installed Nissan SD33 non-turbo... # (link to current pictures below) # # I found a used SD33T out of an '80 Scout... # # Question is could I take the turbo setup off of the SD33T and put it on my SD33? # # John: # # As a Scout enthusiast and a Terra owner, I've got to say a few things: # # No, the SD33T and naturally aspirated SD33 were different enough that the # turbo swap might result in issues down the road. I couldn't run down the road with that thing hanging off the hitch, it would crack and break.... I could stand on the barrel lift though, so it should work and is about the correct height.
