Found some early '90s Dodge 4x4 with the Cummins... regular cab... don't want a freight train or some massive vehicle... especially if they get worse mileage than the tug. I have the WJ and my trailer for heavy hauling... question: WHAT is IN TOWN mileage for a '91 Dodge 4x4 Cummins Automatic? I'm only getting 17 in town with the tug. The tug's remaining issues are: 1) suspension travel, a crossmember is hitting the top of the differential under load... 2) weight of the bed - 300 - 450 lbs still... 3) a shudder from about 15 to 20 mph that gets worse under load. solutions: 1) will look at adding blocks, cutting crossmember to clear... 2) may cut large sections of that heavy plate out, or build a flat bed... 3) shudder could be an injector, transmission or even drivetrain misalignment... my wife is actually encouraging me to fix it... she thinks it's kind of fun to run around in... I like the size and handling, just need to fix the annoyances... fixed the wind noise on the driver's door with $7 worth of fancy weatherstripping... so these other issues may be solved on the cheap as well... my buddy dave suggests building a flatbed... I like the looks of the current bed but building a completely new lightweight bed has a number of benefits. Could install a better fuel tank at the same time... anyone have plans (dummies guide to flatbed building) available? :) Not sure how much longer it'll be before my J10 is done, but having it home would allow me to take my time fixing the tug. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 2009 14:35:51 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] amusing craigslist ad...
