I am originally from Sri Lanka and there are quite a few older Willys Jeeps running around with Mahindra diesel engines. I haven't owned one, but the ones I have seen and been driven in had unbelievably high mileage and had been around the block for decades! They appear to do well in hot climates but the real test will be how they stand-up in some of the colder climates in North America (ESPECIALLY here in Canada). It would be great to see an emerging economy enter our automotive market, but only as long as it doesn't come at the cost of poor quality vehicles on our roads. I'm figuring gas prices aren't going to get any better, so next year or the year after is probably my best choice. Should that happen, I'll definately stop off so you can try to break its transmission on your driveway :) Or, if family or teaching brings you down this way, stop on by. Parking's kinda tight, but you'd totally get a kick out of seeing the fleet in its entirety. (Though that goes for any of you guys on the list that happen to wander through my neck of the woods.) I've owned several types of Diesel engines in cars, trucks and tractors... I've even had good luck with the Olds 5.7L Diesel... Those little trucks look pretty good to me... if the price isn't too much I would be willing to take the plunge... I'm not afraid of fixing stuff, or modifying it.
