As far as flex fuel goes, it could have run E-85, though I'm not convinced that's all that great of an idea, but it would have saved some money. I sold it to a friend with somewhere north of 265k on it, original everything but right rear axle shaft, EGR valve, and water pump. And this was a flogged police car for the first part of its life. It'd get low to mid 20s for mileage, which was on par with the W123 diesel that's in the yard. Each technology (gas and diesel) has its advantages and its disadvantages. Having owned the absurd number of cars I own and having been around many more, I've come to the conclusion that, with the exception of a big truck pulling heavy loads, the choice isn't necessarily the fuel, it's the car that comes in it. Gassers can totally go the distance and get good mileage, and diesels can totally blow up in under 100k and get poor mileage too. I love my 124, but the climate controls on any benz is only to be loved by Rube Goldberg and Murphy. I have been ruminating on my vehicle situation... I'm moving forward with the Superdawg strategy... but am considering another '88 GMC Jimmy with the 6.2 Diesel... there's a nice clean one up and the guy has been trying to sell it for a long time, may make him a ridiculous offer for it without the 35's and see if he goes for it... if he does I'll put the tug on blocks and run those tires up north to drive it back... :) I know that no matter what I have I want it to be: 1) Diesel *(free WVO and access to good BioDiesel) 2) 4x4 (got to get out of my drive on those 3 snow days a year. :) 3) automatic (not a solid requirement, just needs to not hurt my back) 4) a/c (not a mandatory item, the cj-10a is ok) 5) good visibility 6) capable of hauling the aforementioned WVO or pulling my trailer 7) it has to be unique, respectable and entertaining... ;) so, from that list, the crown vic is eliminated... and for the most part so is my 124... need to get over to Idaho to pickup the Diesel parts for superdawg, waiting for my friend to reassemble my J10 so I can drive it while I use the tug as a test bed for the sd33t. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Wed, 10 Jun 2009, Kevin wrote: # Probably the wrong list for this, but the cheapest vehicle to keep on the # road that required the least amount of maintenance (spark plugs included) # was a fuel injected crown victoria. I decided it best to use the WJ to make this last run as I had four or five barrels, several buckets and cubies and smaller containers... guessing around 110 gallons or more of WVO... I could have carried about three barrels in the tug, but it would have been on the bumpstops... so we used the trailer... I fixed the brakes, almost have them bled, could tell they were working, the rust is off of the rotors! Heading to Coure De Lane, ID on Thursday to pick up a couple of SD33t's, 727 and T19 with adapaters... towing the J10 trailer behind the WJ... this was kind of a test run, worked well, happy that the a/c is working. here's the fotos of the barrel lift's last barrel adventure: http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/06-Jun-13-last-barrel-WVO-run-more-garden/ALL.html broke out the 55 mm micro lens this afternoon... :) CAUTION: if you're afraid of BEES, step back from the monitor... :) http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/06-Jun-13-garden-bees/ALL.html compare the bee shots with the shots with the 18-200 zoom... http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/06-Jun-11-bees-in-gardens/ALL.html waiting for chuck to post his pictures from the Arlington car show, he had his '65 XKE out there... it was 72 degrees and sunny, too hot for us to walk up and down main street. ;) looking forward to seeing how good chuck's new camera does, nice Lumix G1! My shots are a mix of Lumix Fz-50 (pxxx) and a Nikon.
