I didn't think MBNA did any US crash testing on the first gen smart. There was an independent company importing them into the US, so maybe they were the ones who had to have the crash testing performed. Although it would definitely be interesting to score a turbodiesel for my 08 smart, especially if I were to blow the Mitsubishi 1 liter 3 banger gas engine it currently uses. What a bear, no room to maneuver in that engine compartment. Started the engine and almost hit the key twice, all the vibration and noise in the cabin is gone. What a difference new mounts make. The rear mount under the tranny seems to be OK and the new part is a bit different, having a stud pointing up where the old one had a bolt going down. They may be interchangeable but I am not going to test the theory until the old part perishes. Going for a drive to South Bend (SWMBO wants to go shopping) to test it out. john wrote: > any idea what he wants for them? these engines aren't > going to be very big... not suitable for a jeep are they? :) > > > > ----- > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold > http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org > http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > On Thu, 2 Jul 2009, Kevin wrote: > > # http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/pts/1249177580.html > # > # It's a good thing I can't weld. I was stopped at a light, there was a light thump, almost like a backfire, then the engine RPM dropped ever so slightly and the ABS light came on. Got home, can't find anything visually wrong with the beast, all fluids OK, no leaks, no visible disconnected lines. Car idles normal as far as I can tell. ABS light comes back on and stays on after shutdown and restart. Am going to look at the circuit that triggers this warning, but want to know if anyone has had this issue. Haven't done anything about it, the brakes work, just no ABS. Don't know how it is on the 300D... ...on the Astro, the ABS has its own computer. When it's not happy about something, the computer shuts down the ABS system, and illuminates the light. The ABS computer talks OBDII, it is connected to the same pin as the engine computer. The OBDII is, in a sense, a computer bus, and it has a notion of addresses. The ABS computer has a different address than the engine computer, and can be talked to by any general purpose OBDII interface. Unfortunately, the OBDII scanners that you can buy at the store do not grok ABS. There is one EQUUS scanner that does, but it costs $180, and it is only passive. That is, it can ask the ABS computer what is its code, and possibly reset the code, but it cannot send commands to the ABS computer. If you have the right (expensive!) scanner, you can send useful commands to the ABS computer, to turn valves this way and that, for troubleshooting. This information is specific to my Astro ( 1999 ) but should be applicable to most OBDII-equipped vehicles. - Jerry Kaidor ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jul 2009 21:33:39 +0100 From: Stephen Rigley Subject: Re: [db] ABS light on I've recently had the ABS light come on in one of my other cars (it was a dead sensor, tested resistance of each to find it). The ABS unit controller in that car controlled the brake bias valve.. if the Benz is the same be careful in the wet (or bring spare trousers!) as you may have lots of front brakes + lock up easily.
