John A car is worth no more than you are willing to pay for it. Blue book with that amount of miles and that age is going to be a pittance. I guess to me it would seem a bit on the high side, but then I don't know the condition of all the rubber parts which with that age are surely going to be very brittle and in need of replacement. Go take a good look at it then mull over what it is worth to you, especially if it is as clean as cited and the rubber bushes and other hard to replace parts are sound.. Temperatures were well above 100 for most of the trip and I drove as fast as traffic would permit (which is pretty fast here in Socal except when its not--but I was going 80-85 on the interstates and 65-70 on the state highways). We had to turn the AC down after about 50 miles. I got 35 mpg on the way there. Coming back after dark with temps down to 101 or so and driving slightly slower, I got 43. The 2006 Golf GLS TDI 5 speed auto is not much to look at but it is an impressive machine. Now my biggest maintenance issue is deciding what oil to use. The spec is VW 505.01. Amsoil claims that their 5W40 "European Car Formula" meets the spec but does not have the letter from VW saying so. I am betting that their new 5W40 oil for post-2007 diesels is even better than the European Car Formula (which claims both S and C ratings). I hope to take pictures of the 1982 300CD and accumulated accouterments this weekend. I hope to find someone who wants to build a grease rod. I already have the tank! In other words it was still better at that mileage than most dino oils are after 1,000 miles in a Diesel. the "C" rating is what is used to determine if the oil meets warranty, the other info is irrelevant and unnecessary... this is based on federal law governing this sort of thing... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Fri, 24 Jul 2009, Eric Ditwiler wrote: # I took my son home to Yuma, Arizona (from Pomona, California) on # Monday.
