When a diesel engine runs at 100% efficiency (or as close as can be gotten) as yours pretty much does, it produces what is now considered an unacceptable amount of oxides of nitrogen. These engines are not allowed to run as efficiently as they otherwise might by the computers that are programmed to comply with paranoid emissions laws. Didn't the mileage schema get changed a few years back? Still not particularly impressive, though. Our '93 gets 29-ish all local, 31 regularly, and 40-46 on some highway trips. - -bkc Lynnwood, WA (his) '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] (hers) '92 Toyota Celica GT (ours) '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] On Thu Aug 27, 2009, John Meister wrote: > > only 23 mpg city... 32 hwy, the 2008 bluetec... > my '91 was rated 26/34, get 30 in town... > > http://www.mblynnwood.com/inventoryDisplay.aspx?s=specials_detail&year=2008&m ake=Mercedes-Benz&model=E320%20BlueTec%204dr%20Sdn%203.0L%20RWD&inv=264&vin=W DBUF22X98B317926&total=11&pos=1¤t=1&size=15 > > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: Mercedes-Benz of Lynnwood > > > > You have received the alternative text version of an HTML message. Used to be Dexron II in the 85 per manual, but I don't have a current US manual for the '93 Today new symptom. From stop, hit accelerator and transmission slips, car won't go. Downshift to 2 and it goes, when moving, put it back to 3 or D and it goes and shifts fine. Symptom just started, no problem of this nature in the last 60K miles, odometer is just about to hit 200K. I am going to start with new fluid and new filter to see if it fixes problem. Present fluidlevel OK but becoming more brown than red, does not smell burnt. Vacuum pump and all the hoses I can reach seem to be OK. Comments and recommendations welcome, sooner better :-) Thanks, Edward ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Aug 2009 09:56:44 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] Re: Slipping DB auto transmission - brand new event be careful about the dino ATF... a buddy of mine burned up his Jeep AT with the wrong stuff... All I know, and not just trying to push amsoil, but Amsoil is the only thing I will put in a transmission, it is completely compatible with all of the different types, extends the drain intervals and lowers operating temperatures... I'd drop the pan, clean any filters and such in there and try amsoil and hope for the best... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Sun, 30 Aug 2009, Edward Pomeroy wrote: # John & group # # What ATF is recommended for the 91 through 93 series of 300D E class? PLAN "A" WAS to drive down on Friday to Centralia, drop off a 727, pick up the Scout T19/D300 and proceed to Salem, OR to meet up with a list friend from CA on Saturday to deliver the T19/Dana 300, and then test drive the running Scout with the SD33T... the SD33T will be delivered to Centralia later when that guy goes up to visit family... however, there are some fires in CA that have changed the transmission delivery plans as my list friend happens to be in that line of work, so... invoking PLAN B: Drive down on SATURDAY to Centralia, drop off the fresh TF727 for Superdawg and then continue on down to Salem to test drive the Scout SD33T and generally goof off. We'll spend the night in Portland or Salem and head home on Sunday, hopefully beating the Labor Day rush on I-5 Monday evening. Of course with my luck I won't find a hotel on Saturday and we'll end up driving all the way back, which is fine, will save some money that way. :) Later we'll ship the T19/D300 transmission from Centralia or work something else out. I think shipping it down to CA will be cheaper than what we had planned anyway. :) Meeting halfway sometimes works out... getting all the timing just right is a challenge. These I-5 adventures are always entertaining if nothing else... trying to get 3 or 4 different sets of strangers to all meet up at just the right times is somewhat unusual. Anyway, the benefit of PLAN B is I don't have to take a day of vacation and I can drive the '91 300D and get 35+ mpg. In other news, the wedding went very well, my daughter was absolutely lovely, my wife beautiful, the food and venue excellent and the guests wonderful. Have no idea where the kids went on their honeymoon, my son-in-law is a character and loves creating suspense and surprises... we think they're going to go on a cruise... but who knows... they may be hiding in their townhome watching old black and white movies and eating popcorn, which seems to be a common thing for people in my acquaintance. :) Anyway, back to the important stuff... the 727 will have the correct tail shaft to mate to my existing Jeep NP208, the correct bell housing to mate to the SAE#4 adapater for the SD33T, a fresh shift kit and a good torque converter... This at least will allow Curtis to get the drivetrain in place, even if the SD33T there isn't running and even if the flexplate piece hasn't made it there yet... those are both things I can deal with later if need be. The 727 should fit easily in the trunk of my 300D, and the hydraulic rear suspension should keep us riding true and level, likely at a max speed of 35 mph on I-5 since it's the last weekend of summer, however, I'm counting on a turn of the weather to keep folks home... :) I'll also have a good 727 to sell with the Jeep bell housing, '89 GW non-lockup guts and the tail shaft that will work with a Scout Dana 20. Very much looking forward to having the J10 running on Diesel and painted the same color as the WJ. The tug if for sale and can go any time. Need the money from it to pay for the wedding... :) Of course now with rain returning to Seattle the air will be clean and I can drive it without resorting to antibiotics, and other meds... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3137 **********************************
