I have $600 set aside for the SD33T... (popcorn ready?) yesterday the following happened: 1) the guy in bellingham selling a rust free '81 300CD with a broken engine that was from Nevada emailed, said rather than $1000 he'd take $600. 2) the guy with the 400K+, low mile on rebuilt engine, rust free 240D with a vacuum issue originally from California emailed, said rather than $999, he'd take $600. Runs great... comes with free BioDiesel even... 3) the guy with the running SD33T emailed, said he'll have it out this weekend. and he's delivering it to Centralia for me on his way up to visit relatives... not sure when that will happen... YASD (Yet Another Superdawg Delay), suspect within a month... hmmmm... 1) the 300CD will cost at least another grand to get an engine... suspect other issues with the car than what I know about from small pictures, referred the guy to a Diesel shop and a friend up there... if someone wants a nice 300CD project would run up and look at it for you if this guy doesn't start parting before I can get up there.... 2) thinking really hard about this one... suspect I could fix and turn quickly and make a grand or so... or end up sitting on this thing for months trying to find someone who isn't afraid of 400k on a benz. need to make some money to pay for the wedding... but am really leery about over extending my project list... there just ain't enough popcorn... 3) already committed to the SD33T... good solid engine with all the accessories, I know my J10 won't be together tomorrow, but this is the direction I'm wanting to go. I'm waiting for the flex plate to arrive next week, will pick up the torque converter and run it all down to Curtis's at the same time the SD33T is delivered so it'll all be together at once, hopefully... so... anyone interested in that 240D? totally and absolutely rust free... runs like a top... I can fix the vacuum problem, get the sunroof working, fix the seats and clean it up pretty easily... or you can... If I don't buy it the guy is going to drop the price and put it back on CL. It really does run great, one of the issues is some clod redid the vacuum lines so it starts but doesn't shut off... the guy that owns it bought it as a project car for BioDiesel but clearly is out of his league on both counts. However did the vacuum routed the vacuum line directly to the vacuum operated run solenoid... :) Rube Goldberg claims another hapless victim... The SD33T engine will give me 20% more power and economy than the tug's engine in a lighter vehicle (4,100lb vs. 4,400lbs), with slightly lower gearing... 3.54 vs. 3.31... with longer wheelbase (119" vs. 93") and more room, and a dashboard! should work out quite nicely, oh yeah, a/c, power windows and door locks, will be living large... currently getting a solid 18 mpg with the SD33, so I should see 20 mpg in my J10 with the SD33T, for me that is about as good as it gets for in town... the Scouts were EPA rated at 20/24, same size tires and gears, so I should come close, lighter vehicle, but with an automatic... So I will be able to haul WVO, have 4wd, visibility and a comfortable ride... and a classic... I have been looking at some of the older 300TDs (wagons), but can't get excited about the 123 series body after driving a 124 as long as I have. Hard for me to pass up bargains though, should really block craigslist on my pc... I also keep my eyes open for a TDI, really like VWs, but dang if they don't have a steep price tag assigned to them... ;) It is really cheaper to own a Mercedes... kind of funny when you think about it... I can't afford a VW, but I can afford a Mercedes, or several of them... too funny.... of course if the tug sells I could buy all and fix all and make enough money to buy lunch and pay for the parts used... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 2009 13:35:31 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] Re: FW: greg said: Found my new car! http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/CARS/MAYBACH/ ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Sat, 19 Sep 2009, Greg wrote: # # # # # # # # The car pictured is a Mercedes Maybach # # Notice the 'recliner' rear seats, and the 'electrostatic' sunroof. # # The sunroof turns from opaque to crystal clear depending on the passenger's # preference. # # # # # # # # # # # # # NOW, STOP DREAMING AND GET BACK TO WORK! # # BE HAPPY WITH THE CHANGES THAT OBAMA HAS PLANNED FOR YOU! # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3148 **********************************
