Maybe they are trying to stick with all MB stuff? I don't think one would get the legendary OM617 economy or durability at 4K. What is the difference in weight between a GW and a 116 SD? Full frame Xfer case, front axle, solid rear axle, Its probably about 1000 pounds. Probably still lighter than a 'mog. Maybe he could run it at 3.5K and get something resembling a gasser 6 in economy and durability and a gasser V8 in performance? I suppose it would be even harder to shoehorn one into one of the little Cherokees . . . I am about to shoehorn a Caterpillar 2 micron fuel filter into my 2006 VW Golf TDI to replace the 15 micron stock filter and then replacing the tranny in my 300CD and then hoping to go wrench-free long enough to write a dissertation just in time to turn the 300CD into a Mad-Max grease rod in retirement. - --Eric - ----- Original Message ----- From: "john" To: "Ben Giovanelli, CPA" Cc: "full size jeep list" , "diesel-benz list" Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2009 7:12:04 PM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: [db] Re: OM617 into a Grand Wagoneer a few problems with the Benz Diesels in a vehicle as large as a GW... 1) the oil pan is wrong... you'll need a serious lift to clear the axle. 2) the OM617 wouldn't have enough horsepower/torque to keep you happy...
