RE: 4.0L in 2000 WJ that lost a rad hose, the guy replaced it, not sure how far he drove it like that... after the new hose he started to drive it and it slowly lost power then died... the shop that towed it suspected a blown head gasket... - ----------------------------- got a new battery today... pulled the plugs... #2 looked like it was introduced to the piston. engine cranked freely with no funny rattling sounds with no plugs in... sounded weird... turned so easy. compression test showed (from 1 to 5...) 145lbs, **ZERO**, 30, 30, 145, didn't bother to reach back to read #6. I took pictures of the plug, will post 'em tomorrow sometime... I'm not sure if there is internal damage or not yet... next step is to pull the head... can see a ding on #2 piston... the good news is I found several 4.0's with less than 100k on them for $800-$1500. Will tear this down and try to fix it... until the tug sells I won't have the cash to buy a replacement engine... no worries. here's what it looks like: (traded the white '89 XJ limited for this) http://wagoneers.com/WJ/rigs/2000-WJ-4.0-Nov-2009/ALL.html if you have kids, or are a fan of the movie CARS, someone created "Tow Mater" http://fotomeister.us/fotos/2009/11-Nov-22-TowMater-SnoHomish/ALL.html ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Nov 2009 23:54:52 -0800 From: "Paul Kershner" Subject: [db] Re: fsj: list member makes the news! Geez John. Now you've got me esplainin' thins... The VPSA (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorbtion) system removes N2 from the landfill gas by adsorbing N2 molecules at a high pressure, say 100 psig and then depressurizing rapidly (to a vacuum) to desorb the N2. Some valves open to let Landfill gas (CH4 and N2, mainly) in, then other valves open to let the N2 rich gas out. The whistling noise comes from depressurizing through a small orifice like the valve. We also have buffer tanks in that system that do a similar thing, but they groan instead of whistle... It's a very interesting process involving taking out water, various organic compounds, siloxanes, H2S, CO2, O2, N2 and then pressurizing it to inject into the Williams pipeline and ultimately to sell it to the Natural Gas Utility (PSE). - -Paul - -----Original Message----- From: owner-fsj@digest.net [mailto:owner-fsj@digest.net] On Behalf Of john Sent: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 10:59 PM To: Jim Blair Cc: local Jeep list; abcvoice@worldnet.att.net; bmax65@yahoo.com; bull2@verizon.net; dzashby@comcast.net; grhubert@sbcglobal.net; urban.farmer@verizon.net; k9radio@att.net; Kevin Pekarek; mk_camper@yahoo.com; mike@graydogdesign.com; lasikeyes@msn.com; Paul and Megan Kershner; cyberwes@qwestoffice.net; diesel-benz@digest.net Subject: RE: fsj: list member makes the news! did you read the article? :) it's the pressure release valve that whistles... it's actually quite interesting, but I'll let the list member tell it... he's the expert... :) ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 24 Nov 2009, Jim Blair wrote: # # Landfill stink and noise? # ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 13:05:06 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: [db] OT: FW: Monster shredder (fwd) need to get rid of some old parts... tires... furniture or appliances??? check this out... http://www.ssiworld.com/watch/the_monster.htm ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 15:49:16 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: [db] how did this spark plug get damaged? I've got two generators... only need one... well, actually don't need any, we rarely lose power... BUT, my "shop" doesn't have the wiring to support a welder. So a generator makes sense, plus it's portable, can toss it in my truck... no outlet required. ;) Both of my generators are 4.4KW... one is a gas Linconln with the welder built in, the other is a Diesel electric start, but no welder. I've been trying to sell the Diesel Generator, no nibbles... I just replaced the battery, electric start works nicely... prefer Diesel. so, I'm thinking of selling the (new) gas gen welder and buying a cheap wire feed from harbor fright... don't use a welder often and thinking it'll be fine. cheap wire feed or limited stick? THE QUESTION FOR THE COLLECTIVE: - ---------------------------------- HOW WOULD THE WIRE FEED FROM HARBOR FRIGHT COMPARE TO THE BUILT IN WELDER? The duty cycle on the wire feed is less than the Lincoln/gen/weld, but wire feed is a lot easier to use than a stick welder... I think both are limited in how thick they'll weld... if they're about equal keeping the Diesel and buying the separate wire feed would be my choice... gasoline stinks and doesn't run as long as Diesel... - ---------------------------------- GAS Gen/Welder - Lincoln Power Arc 4000 - 4.4Kw brand new... never used... well, ran it for an hour. had to buy welding cables for it... made them extra long $$ SPECS: RATED OUTPUT - WELDER Duty Cycle Amps Volts at Rated Amperes 30% Duty Cycle 125 20 VAC 60% Duty Cycle 100 25 VAC OUTPUT - WELDER AND GENERATOR Welding Ranges Welder Open Circuit Voltage AC Auxiliary Power 70 - 125 Amps 62 VAC Max. 4000 Continuous Watts 4400 Surge Watts and the DIESEL generator (Eastern Tools & Equipment ) 4.4kW, about 1226 hrs on it. just put a new battery in it, works great... turns right on. http://wagoneers.com/tmp/cl-items/DieselGen/JEM_5658_2009_11_14.jpg WIRE FEED SPECS: (on sale for $94.99, normally $150) - ------------------------ http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=98871 90 Amp Flux Wire Welder (1.7Kw) No Gas Required! 90 Amp flux wire welder specifically designed to use self-shielding flux-cored welding wire, eliminating any need for gas and regulators normal MIG welders require. * Includes 4" spool of flux-core wire and spare welding tip * Self-regulating feed control * Thermal protection with warning light * Carry handle on lid * Input: 115 volt, 15 amps, single phase * Duty cycle: 10% @ 80 amps, 18% @ 60 amps * Wire capacity: 0.030" ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3176 **********************************
