While I would love to get that '87 300GD on CL, I don't have $18k. And my wife won't let me borrow the money... But that leaves a couple other variations: 1) the '87 300TD - need to look at this one, if it's decent I may go for it. http://wagoneers.com/tmp/300TD/ALL.html It needs an a/c pump... and it'll be easy enough to sell when, and if, my J10 is ever finished. 2) TOTALLY CRAZY: pull the engine/trans out of the CJ-10A and put it in the '89 XJ limited, then put the 4.0 into the tug The 4.0 in the tug would be a lot of fun... but not sure if the SD33 will fit in the '89 XJ or not... should be a pretty simple swap, no large hammers or extensive welding involved. Downside is that the XJ needs some cosmetic stuff... and isn't well suited for hauling WVO. A lot of work... I still need to finish the swap on the 2000 WJ... warmer weather is good... Saturday is shot though, my daughter gave us tickets to a show in Bellevue Saturday night... might be able to work on it early in the day... we'll see... The J10 step side with the SD33T is still the best option, but as my son says... my J10 doesn't exist... after 8 years I'm beginning to think he's right... :( really bums me out... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Dec 2009 17:34:20 -0800 (PST) From: diesel john Subject: [db] the '87 300TD drove over at lunch to look at the '87 300TD with 297k on the clock... car started life in CT... does have indications of life back east... detailed pictures... the guy is asking $3k for this car... says he's firm... my wife hates the color. the guy said it blows about 6% (out of 20%) opacity on emissions... that's good... my '91 300D blew 2%... my '86 CJ-10A with 40k blew 1%. http://johnmeister.com/DieselBenz/CARS/1987-300TD-blue/ALL.html http://johnmeister.com/DieselBenz/CARS/1987-300TD-blue/ENGINE_BAY_300TD/ALL.html http://johnmeister.com/DieselBenz/CARS/1987-300TD-blue/UNDER_300TD/ALL.html soliciting the wisdom of the list... haven't driven it yet, but the guy seems to be a straight shooter and says it runs great... from the looks of it, I believe him. has heated seats... I see some rust and body damage... my use of this car would be for hauling WVO/BioDiesel and driving daily... expect 24-30mpg. thoughts? thanx, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3192 **********************************
