But I don't know whom else to ask.... If I don't use my '99 Astro for a few days, AND it's been raining or foggy, it gets very hard to start. It cranks just fine, but no fire. When I let go of the key, it sort of hiccups and burps, turning over for a while. Maybe even a half minute or so. Then it dies. Generally after five or ten minutes of cranking, hiccupping and burping, it suddenly catches and runs. It runs sort of rough, with a stumble off idle, until it gets good and hot - - then it runs just fine. Yesterday it got so bad that I gave up and used another car. When I came back, I pulled the engine cover off for a bit of troubleshooting. During the no-start cranking I verified two things: 1. There is good spark. I 2. There is good fuel pressure ( 60PSI ) ... then the engine caught and ran. This may be part of a continuing problem that I've been having with a code P0155 ( failure of O2 sensor heater ). No, the O2 sensor heater is just fine, thank you, and wouldn't have anything to do with starting anyway. Engines have to be able to start open loop, or they wouldn't start at all. I did find a wiring situation with the O2 sensors at the connection to the computer. Each O2 sensor is supposed to have its own ground return, but somebody had spliced different returns together. Haven't sorted it out yet, that'll require getting under the truck. I'm good at procrastinating getting under the truck :). And I don't see how an O2-sensor ground loop could result in a no-start. Since there is good spark and good fuel pressure, the no-start has GOT to have something to do with the F.I. controls. No pulses. The injectors, BTW, are almost brand new, and the problem dates from before I replaced them. ( sigh. Anybody have a clue? ) - Jerry Kaidor ] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Dec 2009 14:55:58 -0800 (PST) From: Jim Hoffman Subject: RE: [db] the '87 300TD Hey!
