I tried to get the allen head socket on the bolt, but the ratchet handle I was using wasn't quite long enough, even with a small pipe (jack handle) for leverage, we couldn't keep the allen head in the bolt... my son didn't want to remove the intake/turbo setup... ...so out came a power tool (didn't watch) and a hole was cut in the trans tunnel on the '85 300D... and within minutes, the starter was wiggled out through the steering plumbing... it's in the shop this morning... and when I told the guy about how we got it, he told me a story about a starter in a Jaguar... the owner, or another shop, had cut a section out of the tunnel or floorboard and made a nice, sheet metal mounted panel that could be removed... now I can see that on a Jag... ;) considering that I've owned many mercedes and yet to have a starter fail, I think I'll pass on this mod... we have taken some pictures, not sure how good they are... ...just wanted to let you know that my son has resorted to cutting tools again... be careful where you park when you visit... ;) ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 10:53:27 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] good portable talking GPS? nice map... believe it or not it identified a couple of peaks that I see from my house that I have not been able to identify!
