Thanx Ed... it's starting to grow on me... yeah, mine has a flat spot around 3,000 rpm... until about 3,500. my 1.6L Diesel in the caddy would pull all the way through until you hit the governor... it is annoying to find that flat spot. I wonder if there isn't a tweak or enhancemnent. I am also wondering if anyone had an alldata or bentley that could do a screen shot of the speed sensor/computer/cluster setup for the speedometer/odometer. went to dave's tranmission service in lynnwood, he attached his computer and we drove it around, no indication from the speed sensor at all... but we don't know if the ecm gets the input after going through the cluster or not... so it could be the transmission gear that drives the vss, the harness or, if going through the cluster... the cluster... price estimates range from a grand to about five hundred with about thirty bucks in the middle... currently I'm using a cheap gps to monitor my speed, but I really want to know what kind of mileage I'm getting. :) what's amazing is that my VW Diesel has more creature comforts than my Mercedes Diesel. :) john On 7/16/2010 5:10 PM, Edward Pomeroy wrote: > Very nice car John. The VSS feeds the cluster directly... also have the color code.. and this being a little vehicle I can't just slide underneath like with my Jeeps... so I think I'm going to pull the cluster, connect a wire to the pin from the VSS and a ground lead, put it back in and drive and see if I get any voltage, rather than tearing have the engine plumbing out to reach back where the sensor lives. :) Thanx Eric, the information was outstanding! Just what I needed... if I have voltage, then it's only a few hundred dollars to replace the cluster and reprogram it... if it's not, then I'm back to the harness with another wire... and hopefully there be voltage, because if there isn't, then it's the transmission... updates to follow... :) btw, I actually vacuumed out the 300D last weekend!!! and washed it... :) (mlc) it's doing quite well. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Sat, 17 Jul 2010, Edward Pomeroy wrote: # Yes, starting with cup holders and storage space for odds and ends ;-) # # # On 7/16/2010 11:07 PM, john wrote: # > Thanx Ed... it's starting to grow on me... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jul 2010 12:38:08 -0400 From: Edward Pomeroy Subject: Re: [SPAM] Re: [db] fleet update... Heh! You learn to change radio channels by feel, I can now do it in the dark.... Also, you learn to put a folded face towel over the change box/ashtray to keep you dollar bills and car expense notebook from getting soaked when condensation runs off your beverages or they spill..... you also learn that the radios amplified antenna sucks and stations you can hear on your Benz no longer come in during the commute..... but hey, it is a hoot to drive on twisty roads. I can take access on and off ramps at 60MPH with no sweat (dry roads of course). If you post that TDI diagram to your server let me know the URL. I also see a steady 2.5vAC when on, but no change when driving... so the blue wire hanging down will be feed through the dash down to the VSS, or better, to the old VSS and spun in a drill to see if that will work... since there is voltage present at pin 28 the next step might be to pull the connector and see if it's still there... if it is, then the wiring is good and likely the transmission gear is the issue. http://wagoneers.com/tmp/TDI-instrument-cluster/ALL.html heading out to run errands with my wife... got the vw back together... meter on the console. ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jul 2010 13:20:38 -0700 (PDT) From: Becky Maples Subject: [db] Becky Maples wants to stay in touch on LinkedIn LinkedIn - ------------ I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn. - - Becky Maples Becky Maples District Leader at Primerica Dallas/Fort Worth Area Confirm that you know Becky Maples https://www.linkedin.com/e/lko1ld-gbtrftxp-42/isd/1480590798/lceH2YCe/ - ------ (c) 2010, LinkedIn Corporation ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3304 **********************************
