HEY, just bought a used speedo/cluster and swapped it on the TDI, had to go to the dealer, the immobilizer kicked in... but now I have a working speedo/odo/cruise/chimes... everything... whoo hoo... :) only $150 for the cluster, $50 for the reprogramming. Paid $66 for the correct Bentley manual but didn't really get a chance to use it. But that's ok. :) Next, tires... when at the VW dealer another silver TDI wagon with the correct wheels was parked right next to mine... it looked great... which is motivation for me to put the stock rims back on and get the bodywork done... can't seem to find a used replacement rim, the one that was in the accident is just scratched, going to try to clean up the original rim and get all the black marks off, maybe touch it up with some paint and use it. Have three michelin tires of the correct size right now, might be able to find one used one... we'll see... would save some bucks and allow for more research. Also got the D300 back from the camera shop today, and had the water leak fixed yesterday... been an expensive week... but it's nice to have stuff working again. It seems that a lot of my friends at work are retiring... so now my wife is talking about getting a condo with a view to get away from all the gardens she's created... but I need a garage... :) Also need to get my J10 back, then start looking for a Diesel Grand Cherokee or Liberty and sell off the rest of the fleet... life will be simpler and I'll have that wonderful option of retiring... :) john -o|||||o- city/hwy engine/trans/xfr - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2003 VW Jetta GLS Wagon TDI 4?/4? mpg 1.9L TDI/5spd 1991 Mercedes 300D (124) 30/39 mpg 2.5L Turbo Diesel/AT (Shadowfax) 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) 14/21 mpg 4.7L V8/45RFE/NV247 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1975 Jeep J10 long bed (SJ) hydraulic dump trailer - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1983 Jeep J10 Stepside (SJ) (Superdawg)- under construction since 1999 getting '80 Scout SD33T Diesel, TF727/NP208 mpg: 20/24 expected -o|||||o- http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 2010 06:46:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Jim Hoffman Subject: Re: [db] Re: tire survey summary... I didn't realize the Cats had that much value, the ones I've had that went bad I just tossed... arggh. I think a skid plate would be a better approach... if you can't get to it you can't cut it off... and it will help with off-roading and air flow... you'll have to provide venting for the cat, some holes in a plate would do that. one of the guys on the xj list built an xj with a very heavy duty skid plate... he had holes for cooling... you could literally lift the xj with that plate... I'm thinking of building something like this for my TDI wagon... :) found the picture... http://wagoneers.com/XJ/rigs/MarcBowers-old-XJ/XJ-skidplate-MarcBowers.jpg john On 7/31/2010 8:11 AM, dave wrote: > > Has anyone ever seen one of these catalytic converter anti-theft devices? > > http://catclamp.com/index.php > > Not sure I want to spend $150 for one or try to create my own. > > I bought a new cat for my JGC for $90 shipped through ebay.
